Telecommunications infrastructure operator Cellnex Telecom and Everynet, a leading provider of IoT connectivity services, have reached an agreement to jointly promote the roll-out of new Internet of Things (IoT) networks in Italy, the United Kingdom and Ireland. These IoT networks, based on LoRaWAN technology, will be deployed on Cellnex’s extensive telecommunications infrastructure networks in these three countries and will rely on Everynet carrier-grade and secure IoT network solution.

Multiple IoT solutions on the Cellnex infrastructure network will be deployed; Industry 4.0 for tracking or monitoring assets throughout their supply chain, Smart Cities, and  Smart Parking Solutions to help digitise mobility and optimise the use of public highways and urban space, as well as creating a platform for trial and experimental uses that will allow the development of the ecosystem with new future applications.

Outcomes can include Social and Facility Management or Environmental Management, which can foster the development of smart cities in these three countries and improve the well-being of their citizens. This will involve installing sensors and monitoring comfort levels and consumption across multiple environments, indoor and outdoor, in various types of building, and transmitting service and gathering data across wider territory networks.

Moreover, Smart Utility for gathering data and monitoring resource consumption represents one of the projects with the highest potential. Services to Utilities are a big opportunity in terms of efficiency and cost savings both for the companies involved and final customers, not mentioning the savings coming from avoiding waste of resources. Smart IoT can help utilities save resources, reduce costs, and improve the impact on the environment. In managing the SmartGrid, electric utilities can leverage IoT to optimize their services to their customers.

Cellnex Global Commercial Director Oscar Pallarols highlighted that “this is an important step forward to embrace the very rapid deployment that new technologies are experiencing in response to the unprecedented changes that society and global economies are facing. A first-class connectivity infrastructure at the service of new communication ecosystems that we strongly believe will enable renewed business models.

“We are looking forward to deploying these new IoT networks in Europe that enable integrators, developers, and telecommunications companies rapidly launch a broad portfolio of IoT solutions in the market.  These networks are interoperable with existing national networks in France, The Netherlands, Germany, Spain, and Switzerland enabling EU wide-roaming” said Lawrence Latham, CEO of Everynet.

To collect the data, Cellnex provides an integrated IoT platform for managing and providing real-time (and remote) diagnostics and the immediate ability to act either predictively or preventively, manually or automatically, with the provider responsible for managing this service resource. Everynet, on its part, provides and manages the LoRaWAN network infrastructure that will be deployed for Data Collection, granting a secure, fast and low-cost service to support real-time actions and decision-making.
