CeADAR, Ireland’s Centre for AI has released a news analysis giving a thorough overview of the pivotal trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in 2023 and predicting that AI will profoundly alter business operations in 2024.

The report expects AI in general and GenAI in particular to affect revenue growth, daily tasks, customer and employee engagement, and business model innovation increasingly as the year unfolds.

The document – AI Roundup 2023 with Trends & Projections for 2024 – says businesses are poised for significant transformations in 2024 as they prioritise full automation, AI training for staff and rush to market with new products in an evolving AI landscape that presents opportunities and challenges.

Data for the report was drawn from AI NewsHub (ainewshub.ie), CeADAR’s digital news platform for global developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning. AI NewsHub curates AI news and features from reputable and clearly identifiable media sources globally.

The data was analysed on a quarterly and regional basis with the regions defined as the Republic of Ireland, the United States, the UK and the Rest of the World.

In preparing the report, CeADAR analysed 14,958 AI-related news articles published in 2023 and found that the key trends in AI news were a focus on machine learning, generative technologies such as ChatGPT, new product launches, the impact of big tech companies like Google and Microsoft, and ethical considerations regarding the societal impact and potential risks associated with AI technologies.

The report’s forecast for 2024 is that businesses will prioritise full automation across their entire operations to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.

Businesses are also expected to boost staff training to equip their employees with the skills to leverage AI capabilities and to prepare for compliance with emerging AI legislation.

It says startups and established corporations alike are eager to capitalise on AI-driven innovations to gain a competitive edge and an anticipated rush to market with AI-powered products and services will have to balance the need for innovation with robust security protocols in 2024.

Funded by Enterprise Ireland and the IDA, CeADAR’s primary focus is on delivering AI services to industry.

The report was produced in CeADAR by Dr Arsalan Shahid and his team of AI scientists. It is freely available for download at ainewshub.ie

Technology Solutions Lead and Head of CeADAR Connect Group, Dr Arsalan Shahid said:

“Our analysis demonstrates that the subject of AI is increasingly the focus of all sections of the media globally from the mainstream to specialist publications for various sectors. This reflects the rapid deployment of AI across all industries. Drawing insights from over 14,000 AI articles, we have highlighted the pivotal role of automation, the surge in AI-powered product innovations, and the critical importance of staff training in harnessing AI’s full potential.”
