LinkedIn and the African Professional Network of Ireland breaking down barriers and connecting Africans in Ireland at Career Day event.
One of the largest events for Black History Month in October, Career Day 2023 will be hosted and organised by the African Professional Network of Ireland (APNI) in collaboration with LinkedIn on 12 October. The event returns for a 2nd year to LinkedIn’s stunning EMEA headquarters on Wilton Place in Dublin. APNI is a non-profit volunteer group of African, Afro-Irish and African diaspora professionals and students founded in 2016 to connect, empower and foster collaboration within Ireland’s African communities.
Career Day is a free event focused on professional growth for the African and Afro-Irish community. Students, new graduates, professionals and those looking to upskill are all welcome. It will feature a dedicated CV clinic, insightful panels and a professional headshot studio with food and networking in the evening. Participants can look forward to gaining invaluable insights, expanding their networks, and engaging in meaningful discussions on diversity and inclusion in the workplace. There will also be breakout sessions on how to future-proof your career in the age of AI, equipping young professionals in STEM and various industries.
This hybrid event is on 12 October. Workshops will be hosted online and at the LinkedIn office in the weeks prior to help attendees maximise the opportunity to meet with potential employers and expand their networks.
This year’s event is set to be bigger than 2023 and feature support from APNI’s 2023 corporate partners – Docusign, Enterprise Holdings, Fidelity International, Grant Thornton, Vodafone and Zurich.
“We had over 600 attendees in-person and 200 online last year. We are so excited to build on this for 2023 and continue to empower and inspire professionals at all levels in the midst of alot of economic uncertainty. However the game changer for APNI this year has been working with some fantastic corporate partners. Their genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion aligns perfectly with the objectives of Career Day. To have that support and backing has been invaluable. Whether it has been helping us plan workshop content, develop panel ideas and have the space and resources to look at how to connect African talent in Ireland with the right opportunities.” explains APNI President Edima Inyang.
The first female paediatric neurosurgeon in Ireland, Tafadzwa Mandiwanza, is confirmed as the event’s keynote speaker.
Companies confirmed to be present at this year’s career day (in addition to the above stated 2023 partners) include Docusign, JP Morgan, Irish Life, WorkDay, Mercury Engineering,Bank of Ireland, Vodafone, Zurich, Kellogg’s, Hubspot, Google, Enterprise Holdings, Fidelity International,Grant Thornton, LinkedIn and Apple.
“Last year’s event had an incredible atmosphere. The potential for the African and Afro-Irish workforce in Ireland is huge. They are multilingual, highly educated and keen to make their mark across a range of sectors.” explains Sewa Matlapeng. Sewa moved from South Africa currently works as a software developer in META and is the lead organiser of the Career Day event APNI.
