Caoimhe Lynch wins ACSLM

Caoimhe Lynch, from Ennis, Co. Clare, a 2015 BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science Graduate from Cork Institute of Technology, has won the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine President’s Prize (ACSLM) for the Best Final Year Research Project in the filed of Biomedical Science.

Caoimhe was one of six students selected, nationally, to compete and she presented the findings of her Final Year Project called “Epidemiological Analysis of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci in an Acute Irish Hospital” to an audience in Dublin’s RDS and was announced as the winner by the ACSLM President, Mr Irene Regan. This Award puts Caoimhe in first place for undergraduate research among all the biomedical science students of her year.

Caoimhe conducted her research in CIT’s CREATE Building under the supervision of Dr Brigid Lucey and it was a collaboration between the Department of Biological Sciences at CIT and the Department of Microbiology at Cork University Hospital.  She was generous in her praise for her supervisor Dr Lucey, Mr Brendan O”Reilly, Laboratory Manager at CUH and his team of Medical Scientists and all the programme lecturing and support staff.

She will represent Ireland at the European Association of Professions in Biomedical Science International Conference in Athens in October 2016.
