Describe the company – the elevator pitch …

WANdisco, which stands for wide area network distributed computing, is the world leader in Active Data Migration. This means we can move large volumes of continuously changing data between cloud and on-premises environments with no downtime and no business disruption.

How are you different?

Our technology is unique – we have 7 registered patents and 25 pending applications in the US and internationally. Computer science still says what we do is impossible.

Why will the company / product do well?

We have an OEM with IBM and we are also partnered with Amazon Web Services, Cisco, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure and Oracle who sell our product for us.

Where are you based?

We have a large office in Belfast with headquarters in Sheffield and Silicon Valley.

When was the company launched?

We launched in 2005. It took us five years to develop our first product.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

Entering into an OEM with IBM was key for us. Their willingness to invest in our technology and also brand it as IBM Big Replicate has had a huge impact on our sales pipeline and has demonstrated to the market that our technology is truly unique.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

The applications for our technology are wide ranging. As a result we work with all the main tech players, some of the world’s largest banks, airlines, car manufactures and government agencies. We have also been part of the technology underpinning a smart city in the Gulf. We also recently announced a deal with one of the largest vehicle manufacturers for self driving cars. As businesses increasingly moves their operations to the Cloud and we integrate the Internet of Things further into our daily lives I only see the use cases for our technology increasing.

Tell us about your team?

We have an incredibly talented team of software engineers working in our Belfast office who work on our core intellectual property. We also have a large team of inside sales people as Americans tend to trust the Irish accent!

What are you long term plans for your product / company?

We are looking for talented software engineers to join our Belfast office.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

Too many to mention all of them! I like home automation products – the ability to switch something on when you’re away from home is really useful. I also like the way Apple products all synchronize with each other and just work

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

We are looking carefully at the quantum space and teleportation of data is surprisingly close – imagine being able to move data at the speed of the light.
