Business Showcase: Sbaam

Sbaam is a fashion tech company whose mission is to connect emerging fashion brands and designers with customers through the growth and development of an enthusiastic and supportive fashion community.

Hailing from Italy, the team are now located in Cork where they have taken part in the Bank of Ireland Accelerator programme.
We spoke with Sbaam’s editor-in-chief, Alessio Chirivì, to find out more about the fashion centric start up.

Hi Alessio. Can you explain to our readers what Sbaam is?

Sbaam is a vibrant community that connects fashionistas with emerging brands around the World.

Sbaam keeps fashion lovers updated with the latest fashion trends thanks to posts written by talented bloggers and editors. It also provides fashion lovers with an exciting online shopping experience, delivering limited edition collections from new emerging designers.

Sbaam’s mission is to discover cutting-edge designers and to introduce them to our international community of fashionistas.

Where are you based?

Sbaam is based in Ireland, precisely in Cork city at the Bank of Ireland Accelerator programme.

We are an Italian team who have come to Ireland to develop our project and deliver our passion for fashion to the whole World.

We are sure that Ireland is the best place in Europe to run a successful business.

When was the company launched?

We gained a lot of experience in Italy attending the major fashion events and catwalks in Milan, Florence and Rome. There we built the foundation of our project.

We moved to Ireland and formed an Irish company in September to launch the international version of our platform.

Who are the type of people you are trying to attract to the platform?

We are the new social platform for all those who really love fashion and who are fascinated by this wonderful world.

We believe that fashion means community, sharing and fun, so we created the perfect place to get in touch with thousands of fashion lovers, bloggers and emerging talents.

Talking about fashion has never been so exciting!

What do you believe are the benefits of using your platform?

For bloggers Sbaam is  the perfect platform to increase their visibility and their number of followers by sharing every type of posts with a wide audience of fashion lovers.

For example they can share outfit photos, reviews, fashion shows, articles, interviews and everything about the wonderful world of fashion!

For brands and designers Sbaam is an online distribution channel where they can promote and sell curated selections of their fashion masterpieces.

Can you tell me about the team behind Sbaam?

I honestly think my team is the best, we are very committed and full of passion. What more can you ask for?

I’m 25 years old and I am the editor In chief. I came from a family with a tailoring tradition. I graduated as fashion designer in Italy and I got the nickname of “The fashion priest” just because I always try to convince people to be more fashionable! I have been a fashion blogger and I launched my own label called Chirivì.

The other two team members are Andrea and Luciano. Two extremely competent technical guys with more than 10 years of experience in developing software platforms.

Andrea is the CEO of the company. He follows with great interest the new trends related to the fashion business to improve the project vision every day. He is also a Frontend Developer and UX Designer with a master’s degree in computer science. He spent a lot of time trying to figure out how the community members behave and what they really need. He is so committed to this task that I am scared he will end up developing a multiple personality disorder!

Luciano is the Backend Web Developer he also has a master’s degree in computer science and he spends most of his days smashing his fingers on the keyboard “chasing bugs” and “committing code”. Words that I still struggle to understand! He always says that “Code is poetry”, but he doesn’t seem so poetic when he cannot solve a bug!

You have recently taken part in the BOI accelerator programme. How did you find that and what have been the main benefits?

The Bank of Ireland Accelerator is great! It’s a place full of very competent people with an incredibly positive energy.

But its not just that; it’s a space where you can find the best mentors Ireland has to offer and that gives you the opportunity to stay very focused on the development of the product.

What are your long term plans for Sbaam?

We believe in a future where fashion is not controlled by high level brands and provides talented emerging designers the opportunity to gain strong visibility to a international audience.

We believe we can be part of this change and that’s why we wake up and fight every day to protect creativity, craftsmanship and to connect people from around the World.
