Describe the company (the elevator pitch):

RDP Associates helps companies of all sizes from many industries obtain R&D tax credits, government funding, and grants. We also enable them to commercialize their products and services in Europe, the U.S, Ireland, and Canada. How can we help you?

How are you different?

For over 30 years, we have continuously obtained customer feedback, and used them to carry out design thinking/ideation/customer experience programs. We have consistently maintained our net promoter score at 9.2. We achieved this because we want our clients to feel that we are not just professional, but also easy to work with. Through our services and support, our clients get the confidence they deserve (successful attainment of government grants and tax credits).

From our offices in Canada, we work with what is currently one of the most strictly administered R&D tax credit programs in the world. This means that we have a lot of experience preparing for and participating in government audits of R&D tax credit claims and experience. Here in Ireland, Revenue interventions to ensure compliance with the qualification criteria for claiming R&D tax credits have increased substantially, jumping by over 50% between 2015 & 2016. As the level of claims increases further, intervention levels by Revenue will necessarily increase also. The average clawback from Revenue interventions on R&D claims in 2015 was nearly €80k. Our R&D Tax Credit – Risk and Compliance Audit service is designed to help companies identify and mitigate their risk exposure under a Revenue intervention. This service also serves to identify internal process improvements which will streamline your R&D claims processes to maximise your return, while minimising your risk.

Why will the company do well?

Three key reasons stand behind our continued success: the quality of our people, our business processes, and an excellent staff retention rate. The latter offers great confidence to our clients, who deal with the same RDP staff they can trust.
Through our customer outreach, we have developed processes such as the Innovation Connection Program. It connects our clients’ innovation efforts with their bottom line. RDP has been in this business for three decades, working with companies of all sizes and stages—startup and established—and from a whole range of industries. It is this experience and exposure that provides in-depth insight into how we can offer the best possible services to our clients.

Where are you based?

We have offices throughout Canada, the UK, Dublin, Ireland as well as Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

When was the company launched?

Thirty years ago, in 1987. We are going to have our 30th anniversary party. Join the party !

What have been your biggest wins to late?

We have worked with very large enterprises, such as Balfour Beatty, Bombardier, Barclays, Betfair, Blackberry, and many other large companies. However, we are particularly proud of our services to the SME community, which comprise 70% of our client base. Each year we enable hundreds of SME clients to obtain significant amounts of government funding, some of them right here in Ireland.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

We work with businesses across the tech sector (fintech, e-health, digital media, AI/machine learning, big data, blockchain, IoT, and many other software-based companies). We also work with advanced manufacturers and engineering consultancies across a wide range of industries, including agri-food, automotive, aerospace, microelectronics, robotics/automation and biotech/pharma. Our key contacts are CFOs, finance directors, CEOs and other senior executives.

What tips would you give to others looking to build their business?

If you are looking at government assistance to reduce your risk, make sure it fits with your business strategy. Applying for grants, tax credits, and loans just to obtain funding is never a good idea. Government funding should be considered when you have decided on a strategy so that government assistance can help you reduce risks, leverage cash flow, and do more than you otherwise would.

Tell us about your team?

We have a vibrant team of technical and financial associates who come from various sectors in the tech industry with deep insight into what makes a company successful in filing for R&D tax credits and obtaining government funding. Our team puts you on the right path to eligibility for R&D tax credit and for the right government grant.

What are your long-term plans for your product/company?

We continue to increase market share in our existing markets and new ones (Germany and Mexico). In addition, we are introducing new services that are complementary to our government grant and tax credit services such as consulting on product development automation and how best to commercialize product development. In the past 30 years, we have accumulated a significant amount of experience in helping companies fund their product development cycles.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Blackberry gadgets have their own great and unique features. It is nearly impossible to choose one over the others.

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

Anything that would help us save our clients time and money! We’re waiting for commercial teleportation equipment to become available, but for now we’ll settle for video conferencing.

Anything else you’d like to add/we should have asked?

Applying for R&D tax credits or government grants is more complex than most companies think. There is real value in using a company that has the experience, connections and results to achieve success.
