By @SimonCocking. MoppedUp The first and only app connecting homeowners and cleaners to create your perfect home cleaning to-do list and much more.
Describe the company – the elevator pitch…
MoppedUp is a brand new app connects homeowners and cleaners in a smarter way, allowing them to have two-way communication and create a unique home cleaning to-do list on the go. It ensures the homeowner gets the house cleaned when they want and how they want each week. Cleaners can also suggest cleaning tasks to the customers as well as advising when cleaning products are running low.
How are you different?
We are the only app specifically designed to help homeowners and cleaners to communicate better. Technology has helped most of our day-to-day communication, yet many homeowners told us they found it hard to communicate what they wanted with cleaners, especially when their needs changed every week. It is an easier and more reliable solution than scribbling notes on scraps of paper.
Why will the company do well?
We are not a cleaning company, but we have been through in-depth research to ensure our app covers every aspect of the cleaner-client relationship. Our interest is in making sure homeowners have a product that fits their needs and cleaners provide a service that their clients really want. We want to promote communication and build a product that becomes part of every cleaner’s tool kit and the first thing homeowners reach for when arranging anything to do with home cleaning.
Where are you based?
I am based in Shoreditch, London. It seems to be where all the tech startups gravitate towards – though I think mostly because of the density of good coffee shops to keep the teams fuelled.
When was the company launched?
We have been live in the app store for under a year. Our initial period was a watch, learn and listen to what our users had been saying – the initial feedback was that users really wanted a ‘find a cleaner’ function, so we built it in and we now see 90% of first time downloads using it.
What have been your biggest wins to date?
Each hurdle we overcome always feels like a big win, but without the approval of the App Store we wouldn’t be having this chat.
What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?
We really appeal to anyone who wants or already uses a cleaner home. Our recent survey showed over 1 in 4 people in the UK have a cleaner, which illustrates the huge shift in how many people no longer see employing someone to do the cleaning as a luxury.
Tell us about your team?
I am a solopreneur so it is me and a team of specialist freelancers that I use as and when they’re required. I have managed to build a good team of people I can reach out to – they know and understand my product, and having people I can rely on is invaluable.
What are you long term plans for your company?
My goal is to cement MoppedUp into the UK and build a solid, engaged user base. I have work underway to expand into the US and then onto other markets. I am currently looking to find a service I can integrate into the app to manage the payment between the two parties as this is something our users would benefit from.
What are your favourite tech gadgets?
For me personally I am a big fan of Sonos whilst at home and my Bose Soundlink headphones when I’m out and about. As far as some of the tech in the cleaning industry where MoppedUp operates, I would like to have a play with some of the robot cleaners and the Dyson 360 Eye looks superb. I have used Dysons for some years, I love the design and function.
Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?
Our homes are our most expensive assets – MoppedUp ensures your home gets the attention it deserves and nothing gets overlooked.
