Business Showcase : Laundr.ie – Premium Dry Cleaning & Laundry App

Today’s Business Showcase feature is on Laundrie who offer a Premium Dry Cleaning & Laundry App with same day pick up, wherever you are. The service is currently available in Dublin and will be rolling out to other cities soon

We spoke with Grant from Laundrie to find out more.

Can you explain to our readers what service Laundrie offers?

Laundrie is an on demand dry cleaning and laundry app. We collect across Dublin and return clean clothes in 48 hours. Operating till 10pm every night.

How are you different?

We are the only company providing an app based service for the collection & delivery of dry cleaning & laundry.

Why will the company / product do well?

We are the only company in this space and due to the busy lives people lead the traditional dry cleaning service isn’t sufficient. We pride ourselves in our customer service. At the end of the day our whole business is based around making something dull like getting your clothes cleaned feel like something you want to do. This is why we give treats on collection and work very hard to make it the best experience possible.

Where are you based?

We’re based in Grand Canal Dock in Dublin 2, we’ll happily stay in this location for good however we may need a larger premises when the business grows bigger.

Can you explain how the process will work for the end user?

The process is simple, the user downloads the Laundrie app via the app store. They select items to be cleaned, and input the exact locations and times for the pick-up and drop off. Payment option is chosen and they sit back and wait for Laundrie to come to them.

When was the company launched?

It was launched in July 2015. As it’s only 4 months in we’re still finding our feet but with over 200 customers per week and seeing strong growth we have expansion plans.

Can you tell me about the team behind Laundrie?

Currently there are 5 of us at Laundrie, not including our partners. Evan Gray is the founder of Laundrie, who was working in corporate finance when he realised the need for a better way to do laundry and dry cleaning. Evan found that he was too busy and worked so late, that he could never make it to the local high street dry cleaners on time. That’s how the idea for Laundrie was born.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

We are a finalist in the bank of ireland’s sponsor for a day competition which if we win will see the Laundrie logo on the Leinster Jersey for the Bath game in January

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

Our customer base are professionals who have disposable income and are short on free time.

How was Web summit?

It was really good. We met some investors/VCs so talking with them. TBH that was all we really got from it. We didn’t participate in the nightlife side of things and didn’t get to see so many talks.

Very tiring week but I think it’ll pay off!!!

You mentioned you are shortlisted for Bank of Ireland’s Sponsor For A Day. Can you tell me more about that?

We are pleased to be one of 5 companies shortlisted for Bank of Ireland’s Sponsor For a Day competition. We are in the running to get the most votes to get our Laundrie name on the Leinster Rugby jerseys for a game against Bath. The link to vote is: https://media.customerminds.com/lp/7281

It’s all about getting votes, so we are hoping to get support from the Dublin start-up community.

What areas are you operating in initially and what are the plans for future rollout?

We are operating solely in Dublin at the moment. We began in the city centre and have expanded to cover all of Dublin. We have had orders from as far north as Swords, to south of the city in Bray. The plan for future rollout is to expand to a select few European cities that we see as good fits. There has been much speculation to what cities we have in mind, but at the moment we are focused entirely on growing and maintaining our Dublin user base.

How much does the service cost and what are the delivery charges?

Laundrie has priced every item competitively with local dry cleaning/launderette rates. The price list can be found on our app. Some of the more popular items include: Shirt (€3), Blouse (€5), 5 Shirts (€13), 10 Shirts (€25), Suit (2-piece) (€14), and Evening Dress (€16). Our delivery charge is a flat rate of €5, but is free for any order that exceeds €20.

Have you plans to launch other services in the future?

That is a good question, a bunch of other on-demand companies are currently beginning to offer other services as well. At the moment, we want to focus on what we do best, which is laundry and dry cleaning. We want to maintain our excellent quality on every order and continue to do so with our growth.

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

Drones to collect the clothes from our customers would be great as traffic in Dublin can be tough!!!

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?

In the next month we’ll be launching our Android app and a desktop version of the service which will allow people to make orders right from their computers. Keep an eye on our website for more details.
