How are you different?
The truth is, your project is only as good as your people. We know that because we had to build product development teams for our own products as well (InvoiceXpress.com and ClanHR.com). So we know what the biggest pains a tech company has with building a team, we know how much it costs for the onboarding of a developer, how much it really costs when a developer leaves the company and what it really takes to reduce turnover.
Our focus goes from finding the true motivation of our talent and making sure they are happy (which nowadays most companies find challenging) to assessing our partners needs and helping with the process of building a specialized and dedicated team whether it’s through our team-extension model or direct hire.

We have two offices in beautiful and sunny Portugal: Lisbon and Porto.
When was the company launched?
The company was launched in 2007, 12 years ago.
What have been your biggest wins to date?
We could give a shout-out to all our amazing clients and call them our big wins. Pick some flashy names and stroke our ego. The truth is….our wins happen every day. We celebrate them all, big or small:
We’re just as proud of having long term talent (7+ years) at KWAN as we are of every new contract we sign. Our office even has a gong to release some celebratory energy out into the universe!
Another win we are hugely proud of is being damn good at building tech hubs. We’re great at building software teams and that lights our fire.
Spirits were super high when we celebrated our 10th anniversary! We felt so lucky. It was a really big win and we intend to keep on making those happen!
The biggest win of all is our tight relationship with our raving fans. Whether they’re clients or talent or alumni, they are definitely our number one win, every single day. They rock our world and make it go round. And we’re grateful for having them with us.
Who are you trying to attract to your product?
We have an Human centric culture which means we care and really want to know people. Whether it’s talent wanting to become part of the KWAN community or new partners that are looking for help with setting up development team-extensions.
Also, we are always open to exchange some insights over a cup of coffee. You see, in a world where change is the only constant, we like to test the idea that “great minds think alike”.
What tips would you give to others looking to build their business?
Your King is only as good as your Kingdom. Cash might be your King; but culture is your Kingdom. Treat your people well, without them you have no business.
Tell us about your team?
Well, what can I say… They are incredible! We all work in a highly collaborative environment, we value having inputs from each and every department. Our different backgrounds and nationalities give us a unique point of view that enriches our day-to-day.
For recruitment, we have 15 managers fully committed to each process and partnership, specialized in matching the right people and projects.
And yes, we are all about work-life balance and die hard cake lovers!
What are your plans for the future?
The sky is the limit! For us, growing our Nearshore area is the future. Limitations that were previously set in stone are being replaced by a culture of honesty, trust, innovation and consequently more productivity. Together with our geographical proximity, highly skilled talent and quality of life, these are only a few of the variables we offer to take companies to a new level.
In short, investing in the synergy of these variables and creating the most exciting innovation hubs is our golden brick road into the future.
What are your favourite tech gadgets?
We can’t live without our iPhones and Apple Watches. We’re into wearables for health and sports tracking. There’s a few photo and video geeks around too, they’re all into the latest tech and testing it out on drones. We use smart home devices at our offices where you can witness an ongoing iOS / Android battle. But the most amazing is probably all the creations that our
Design team can make with an iPad and Apple pencil.
What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?
We’d love to go full on digital with iPads for speedy work and recruitment processes. Standing desks are probably our future too. But we’re all here dreaming of teleportation and holograms for a more personal experience with our remote engineers.
