Describe the company – the elevator pitch …

What is the first thing readers see when they look at a book? The cover. This is exactly where I come in. Hi! My name is Joshua Jadon, I’m a book cover designer. I’ve created book cover designs for NY Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling authors, writers, and self-publishers of all different genres including New York Times bestselling author Debra Burroughs and internationally bestselling author Jeff Carlson.

How are you different?

Book cover design is my only focus and like any graphic designer I have my own style but most importantly above all my designs are influenced by what the authors bring to the table. A key part of my role as a designer is to find out all of the right information I need to design the book covers first which I do so by gathering all the necessary information for the book covers via my book cover design order form.

Why will the company/product do well?

My approach to book cover design basically started out with working off of a blank slate. This ensures that each design I do will turn out completely unique. My goal is to design book covers that catch readers attention, not the other way around.

Books that catch readers attention are books that are well on their way to becoming bestsellers. If your book cover design does not stand out on the shelf then it’s definitely not going to help increase your sales or win over any new readers. And how exactly do you increase your book sales? By catching the attention of more new readers and convincing them your book is worth there time.

Where are you based?

I am located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I have been living here for about 22 years now. I was born in North Dakota but only lived there for one year with my family before I moved with my family.

When was the company launched?

I launched book cover design back in November 2013 after I dropped out of college at Central Michigan University. One month later after I launched my site I got my first sale from author Rektok Ross doing the book cover design for her book Prodigal and after that, I just kept doing it finding more and more authors to work for online.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

I redesigned a book cover for author Michael D. Stephano’s book The Composers Legacy and it was rated 5-stars by PS it’s still on its way to be published with the new cover.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

Mainly authors, writers, and self-publishers since what I am a book cover designer.

What tips would you give to others looking to build their business?

Make sure to establish your presence online through social media, it’s going to be here for a while, and will be really beneficial to the growth of all businesses in the digital world in the future.

Social media is the main reason my book cover design business is where it is today and even makes sales. On top of it all, it is all very easily accessible from just fingertips on my phone.

Tell us about your team?

I am the only person on my design team right now and am taking things one book cover at a time. I’ve learned a lot since I got started in 2013 and just like anything the more practice the better you get.

What are your long-term plans for your product/company?

I don’t plan on leaving the book cover design field anytime soon. I still have a lot I want to do in the industry, a lot of people I want to help, and there are a ton of other authors I still want to work with including hopefully some famous people here down the road.

In the long term, I just want to continue to build my name as a book cover designer so I can leave my mark here.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

I would have to say my phone. Currently using the Samsung Galaxy S8 and it is literally like my whole computer minus a few things like Photoshop all within the palm of my hand.

Mobile phones are powerful these days and you can really run a whole business with just your fingertips which is pretty cool. I’m still learning every day but doing my best to move things forward.

My second favourite gadget is my Asus G46 laptop that I bought before I went to college back in 2013. Why is this important to me? Because I do all of my book cover design work from here and well it works as a pretty powerful tool to get the job done. Successfully running Photoshop without any issues is a key for me when designing book covers.

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

I wish I could use some graphic design software from 100,000 years in the future that would make what I am doing today in book cover design look like cave paintings haha.

Anything else you’d like to add/we should have asked?

If you asked me why I do what I do, I would tell you it’s because I get too. Why is this important to me? Because the choices we make direct what is and is going to happen next, not the other way around. So what I am trying to say is if I didn’t choose to be a book cover designer, I wouldn’t have left 4 jobs to be doing this today. It’s about choices.

If you like what you do and it is helping someone in their life, that’s a good thing and I can live with that. For example, If I didn’t choose to start up my book cover design website 4 years ago and give it a shot online, I don’t think I ever would have made my first sale on to start with.

My dad told me a while ago to give, serve, love, and build, so with my life, every day, I’m choosing to do just that and show up no matter what happens or what things look like. That’s what got me to where I am today.
