Describe the company – the elevator pitch …

Jobbatical is a marketplace for tech and business jobs abroad. With a mission to distribute knowledge across the globe we inspire talent to take career journeys in the remotest corners of the world by tapping into their wanderlust gene.

Jobbatical smart algorithms match the skillset and travel aspirations of tech and business professionals with companies needs for a specific skillset. We help companies source and relocate the best talent to match their job openings, regardless of location. In an era in which skills are not only portable, but a global currency, we have built a global marketplace for worldwide career adventurers.

How are you different?

We are opening up a whole new talent pool to companies in some of the world’s greatest emerging cities – talent which was previously only accessible to businesses in tech hubs such as London, NYC and Silicon Valley. Today, companies in more remote cities still have to scour professional networking profiles for individuals with the right skills, before trying to identify which of them may be ready to move to their part of the world. Jobbatical removes the pain from this process, by enabling both parties to connect directly.

Why will the company / product do well?

The networked age is expanding the comfort zones of the talent and enabling them to move around in the world. With talent becoming more mobile, a company does not have to limit their hiring to whomever happens to be available in their city. With the help of Jobbatical they are can inspire the best people from anywhere in the world to join their team.

There are two significant things that affect the needs and opportunities for sourcing talent internationally. First of all people change jobs more often than ever before. According to some sources the average tenure in tech is already as short as 18-24 months globally. When people change jobs more often then companies have to work harder retaining them as well as attracting new people. But the opportunity lies in the fact that as individuals our comfort zones have expanded globally with the networked age. Fifteen years ago our comfort zone was very much connected to our geographical location: our workplace, our school, grocery store etc. Today our friendships run in the vertical of interest and my best friend can be in Tokyo, Barcelona or Sydney, which means that we are getting more comfortable moving around those locations. This means that suddenly the talent is not only the privilege of the nerve centers of the world.

Where are you based?

Tallinn, Estonia with a branch office in Singapore.

When was the company launched?

We launched Jobbatical in the end of 2014 therefore just recently celebrated our second birthday.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

We have redefined how people can envision their careers. When career and travelling were two distinctly different things: work vs fun, we have proved that one can aspire to build an exciting professional career from practically any place on earth while fulfilling their travel dreams. Like one of our jobbaticlers, Björn, a marketer from US working in Funderbeam told his team: “10% of people wake up in the morning excited about their work. I had to move from Minnesota to Estonia to become one of the 10%.” Through those over thousand people who have found their new career journeys we have helped to build the confidence of the team leads and founders that they indeed can build a global company from anywhere.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

Jobbatical is a marketplace therefore we have talent users and business users. Our talent users are tech and business talent looking to take their career to another country. We see more and more that we can help the client companies we work with solve two problems – either they are unable to find talent with a specific skillset locally or are interested in building a more culturally diverse team to boost their organisation’s creativity.

Tell us about your team?

24 people from 10 different countries are working at Jobbatical at this moment. Our team operates mainly from the Tallinn HQ but at times our team call is spanning eight time zones and three continents.

What are you long term plans for your product / company?

We want Jobbatical to be the leading international cross-border hiring platform that is changing the way people envision their careers across the borders and how companies build globally competitive teams in every corner of the world.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

Besides the usual: my iPhone, Macbook Air, I love Amazon Alexa, JBL speakers that follow me on my travels & Bose SoundSport wireless headphones – my companion on the many runs while discovering cities during my travels.

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

Teleportation would really help, but probably some time till we get there. Looking forward to Hyperloop though! It seems that this
