Describe the company – the elevator pitch …

Gluon offers specialised software development and consultancy services for fintechs and small-to-medium financial organisations.

The core team are front-office software consultants with a combined 40 years of experience writing full-stack, high-performance, robust and scalable software for investment banks, hedge funds, asset managers and independent financial technologies providers.

How are you different?

We have a unique delivery model that combines London-based analysis, design and project management with delivery from our team of talented developers in the Philippines. Results, service and care levels are those you would expect from the best front-office tech teams in the City. Costs are refreshingly close to your average total outsourcing initiative, only without the risk and the hassle.

With two Directors permanently based in the Philippines, we offer the best of both worlds: rigorous, western-style software engineering and project management with the cost efficiencies typical of emerging market outsourcing.

We recognise the potential of the fintech space and we are open to partnering with any start-up that may require seed or strategic technology to woo investors, secure funding and bring their business vision to fruition.

Why will the company / product do well?

Gluon’s core team have extensive experience in one of the most challenging and sought-after sectors of the IT industry and, thanks to the cost benefits of outsourcing, are able to offer it at an extremely competitive cost structure compared to traditional software consultancies based in London, New York or San Francisco.

The unique combination of specialist expertise, cost-effectiveness and flexibility in project delivery and management makes for a compelling story and will give Gluon an edge for years to come, especially if the current market conditions persist.

Where are you based?

UK (London) and Philippines (Manila and Davao City).

When was the company launched?

What have been your biggest wins to date?

Among Gluon’s most prominent projects on its first year of operation are:

  • major contributions to one of the world’s most advanced data virtualisation platforms, which allow to analyse, crunch and integrate data sets ranging in the tens of trillions via a simple query-based approach;
  • a pre-trade analytics platform for one of Europe’s largest digital wealth management companies;
  • portfolio analytics and management tools for a medium-sized asset manager with more than $1B under management.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

We wish to engage with any player in the fintech and financial SME spaces that has the need for well-written IT, knows the importance of quality and constant attention to their needs yet can’t (or won’t) afford the price tag of traditional consultancies.

We are sure that our commercial expertise and track record in those sectors, plus our commitment and enthusiasm towards the bleeding edge of financial technologies, will not go unnoticed.

Tell us about your team?

The team is led by Vanni Torelli and Nico Deslandes, two well-respected software consultants with a combined portfolio of financial organisations that includes Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas, Barclays, Credit Suisse, Nomura, BP, BGC Partners, GAM and BlueCrest Capital.

Vanni Torelli is based in the main offices in Davao City, Philippines. The Manila office is managed by Michael John Peña, a young Microsoft .NET rockstar and community leader with a distinguished past in Accenture/Avanade and financial clients including Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

We also lean on the expert advice of Marco Jean Aboav, a macro portfolio manager and data scientist based in London.

Yours truly, Stephen Findley, coordinates a network of sales consultants, who provide Gluon with a backbone of business development and relationship management activities.

What are you long term plans for your product / company?

At Gluon, we want to be inexorable creative workers and enablers of the continuing success of fintechs and financial SMEs that, despite IT resources and budget constraints, have the ideas and the talent to aim sky-high.

We will nurture and develop the ecosystem of small-to-medium agents in the capital markets, and provide fintech and hi-tech start-ups with the platform they need to express their potential for innovation and disruption.

Last but not least, our vision stretches beyond business and aims at fostering a generation of top-notch, business-savvy enterprise software developers in one of the most exciting emerging markets of today: the Republic of the Philippines.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

I work remotely and travel – the buzzword these days is “Digital Nomad”. For this reason I don’t perhaps get to indulge in gadgets as much as I would like, but the office for me has to include my MacBook Air, iPhone and Bose Noise cancelling headphones. This combination makes it easy for me to work anywhere and connect with my clients.

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?

If our combined experience can be helpful to you and your business, then please feel free to reach out. We are big believers in social karma and will always try to help where we can.
