Amazing hassle-free citytrips, accessible in seconds – that’s Getaway! We analyze travel data and inspire our users with great travel opportunities inside of Europe every day. A typical Getaway consists at least of a flight and a hotel. We have built our own technology to discover outstanding offers and to provide bookings. Every day, we analyze over one million citytrips, and dig for the most attractive offers, based on price, availability, and what is relevant to users.
How are you different?
We are different in our clear positioning: Getaway is not the next website, providing you with a search for accommodation or flights. Getaway analyzes all the travel data out there and provides inspiration and access to great experiences.

Why will the company / product do well?
From a company perspective, we have an outstanding team and pursue a clear plan. We know our goals and are able to execute purposefully and fastly.From a product perspective, we will do well because our algorithm provides simple access to amazing experiences in a unique way. The way we form our product is highly differentiated from how traditional travel companies think. We don’t offer everything for everyone but focus on a clear niche. With Getaway, you are able to jump on a plan and touch down in a new city every other weekend!
Where are you based? How long will you stay there?
We’re based in Berlin, Germany and we don’t plan to leave. What we are planning, is to address more European markets, starting next year.
When was the company launched?
The project was started in Q2 2015 and we founded the company on June 25th, 2015.

What have been your biggest wins to date?
In terms of our product, we have built an amazing working product. We are able to handle to data of 1,2 million potential travel constellations, and we don’t need to send the user to a third-party travel website to book the citytrips! In terms of marketing, we achieved to generate a continuous stream of new signups without spending any Euro in advertising.
What type of people are you trying to attract?
Getaway typically targets people between 25 and 40. We’re addressing young people, who all have this latent desire to experience something extraordinary, but don’t have the time or inspiration to plan a great trip multiple times a year. It’s about providing access to reliable, convenient, and outstanding experiences, and answering the question “What can I do next?”.
Tell us about your team?
We have a team of six people. From day 1 on, we focused on creating a great culture, and to be more than just coworkers.
In our team, you’ll find two developers, a designer, a product guy, a growth hacker and me as a marketing/business guy.

What are you long term plans for your product / company?
Our dream is to become the leading brand for trip inspiration.
What are your favourite tech gadgets?
Honestly, I’m no real fan of any tech gadget at the moment. For me, a great smartphone, a touchscreen notebook with a digital pen, and a huge monitor works well. Of course, you will always find some influences of gaming hardware on my desks. I never use something else than gaming mouses/mousepads e.g. But that’s not because I love to play games (I think the last game, I played has been CounterStrike in 2005), but I love the fast and precise control this hardware provides.
What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?
I’d love to have a giant touchscreen monitor-wall, to be able to control the whole backend of Getaway. This summer, I have visited the Cisco offices in Silicon Valley, and they had something like this that really impressed me.
