Describe the company – the elevator pitch …

We are ExpertThinking, we know the cloud has the power to transform your business and that, properly designed and implemented, it can drive a competitive advantage and improve performance.

But deploying cloud technology on its own is not enough. In fact, our experience tells us that, done badly, it can be positively dangerous. Success relies on aligning the technical delivery with all aspects of the business.

We help our clients to remove technology as a blocker to achieving their business goals, whatever they may be; to realise more value through better use of technology; enabling growth, reducing costs, improving productivity, and increasing revenue and profit.

How are you different?

Our unique proposition lies in our ability to connect business value, pragmatism, and a real understanding of business drivers, with a deep technical knowledge. We bring together decades of shared experience gained from working with organisations that have the highest demands in terms of security, compliance, performance, scale and elasticity.

We take the knowledge gained from working the the enterprise and use it to benefit mid-market organisations. This means cutting out the bureaucratic overheads of enterprise solutions and focusing on value creation.

Why will the company/product do well?

Organisations of all shapes and sizes are embracing the value and benefit of cloud (public, private and hybrid). It’s a growing market (expected to be a trillion dollar market within the next few years), but we feel that many of the supporting services are immature.

We are incredibly passionate about technology and committed to ensuring that our clients get the very most out of the cloud to build stronger, more agile, and more innovative businesses. Our aim is to help our clients avoid many of the pitfalls by sharing our knowledge and experience.

All too often companies within our field receive a brief or sell a vision that is principally a technological solution – their comfort zone is technology. But we understand that technology is business led and is fundamentally an enabler.

Our approach is immersive, collaborative, engaging; customer-centric, business focused, outcome-led. We pride ourselves on a straight-forward, simple, no nonsense approach. No confusing technobabble. Just straight forward advice which, if implemented, will deliver results.

Where are you based?

We are a distributed team that is based across the UK, coming together on the client’s site wherever that may be.

When was the company launched?

May 2017

What have been your biggest wins to date?

It’s early days. We’re already supporting a mid-market financial services client with their journey to the cloud, and we’re in discussions with a several other mid-market businesses across an interesting mix of industries.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your services?

We’re focusing primarily on mid-market. Having spent years working in global enterprise, we feel mid-market clients are yet to realise the true benefit from cloud technology. That said, if the opportunity arises to support enterprise client with their journey to the cloud, we’re happy to talk.

Regardless of size, our clients typically fall into three ‘categories’; those that are considering or about to embark on their journey to the cloud, those already in-flight and experiencing turbulence, and those that have been told they must take-off but have no flight path, or aren’t confident that all the pre-flight checks have been carried out.

We’re not targeting specific industries. At the moment we are focusing on financial services (banks, lenders, insurance, financial advisors, etc.), UK government (we are listed on Digital Outcomes and Specialists and G-Cloud frameworks), professionals (lawyers, accountants, etc.), retail, logistics, and manufacturing.

Tell us about the Founders?

Our two co-founders are Ben Fry and John Shortt. Ben has spent over 20 years helping organisations improve the way they use technology to support their immediate and longer-term strategic needs. He is a strong advocate of a quality-first approach; improving visibility, identifying issues and risks early and providing confidence the desired outcomes will be achieved. He believes that even the most complex technology change initiatives should be delivered on time and within budget without compromising quality or introducing unnecessary risk. Ben’s background includes founding roles with several technology start-ups, and leadership roles with leading technology companies such as Capita Group, Capgemini, SQS and Piccadilly Group.

With 30 years experience in IT delivery, John has led and executed fundamental service change across a broad range of technology platforms including storage, server, database, and middleware cloud technologies. Having spent three years being responsible for XaaS delivery for UBS, John has a deep understanding of the business, financial and operational factors that are crucial to organisations going through major change initiatives. John brings a wide knowledge of change delivery across the service lifecycle, and has a proven background in delivering real results that are measurable in reduced costs, higher quality of service, and faster time to market.

The rest of the team is also growing quickly, we recently added two very experienced cloud architects to the fold to support our cloud enablement services.

What are your long term plans for your product/company?

Our aim is to quickly become the go-to cloud advisory firm for mid market organisations in the UK. We want to build a reputation for helping our clients realise more value from their investment in technology. Our focus is our clients’ success. To prove the point, where possible, we adopt an outcome-based approach aligning our reward with our clients’ success.

What is your favourite tech?

The office and cloud platforms we use as a company, from our timesheet system to our desktop platforms. We practice what we preach – we are completely cloud native in our philosophy and all of our services, we don’t have an office and our team works virtually (including team members as far away as in Prague, the Czech Republic).

What tech do you wish you could use to help you?

Tools that enable our clients to simplify the orchestration of their services, replacing the often error prone and time consuming human process with automation to provision “on demand” new databases, application servers, security services, etc..

Anything else you’d like to add/we should have asked?

What do you wish people understood about the cloud?

That successful adoption of cloud technology is really an organisational transformation program built on some very cool technology. That the goal of ‘the cloud’ is to provide flexibility and scalability, to drive more efficient and effective use of technology, better enabling the business to achieve its goals and objectives.
