Describe the company – the elevator pitch …

Dataiku develops Dataiku Data Science Studio (DSS), an end-to-end analytics and machine learning tool that allows organizations build and deliver their own data products. A tool for code lovers and non-coders alike, Dataiku makes it easy for teams to organize themselves efficiently, work transparently, and collaborate effectively on their data projects within a shared dashboard to bring value out of raw data. Everyone (from beginner analysts through expert data scientist) can easily apply machine learning and data science techniques to all types, sizes, and formats of raw data in order to build and deploy predictive data flows.

How are you different?

Dataiku is the most complete data science solution on the marketplace. We allow companies to do everything from connecting to data all the way through to pushing to production; many competitors allow teams to address only a small, specific portion of that workflow, forcing them to rely on additional tools in order to have a fully efficient and effective team that is regularly producing data products. We are the market leader because Dataiku integrates data preparation with machine learning, allowing for efficient iteration and yielding better results more quickly. The collaborative server-side solution allows all team members to work together efficiently and eases support needs. Even more unique in this area, we support both code and a visual interface and, with flexible machine learning, users can work with the algorithms and approaches of their choice either in a visual interface or directly in code.

Why will the company / product do well?

Dataiku offers a completely unique product that solves a common and central (as well as complex) difficulty faced by thousands of companies. We enable those companies to go from zero data projects per year to efficiently deploying data projects at scale within six months. And thanks to our specific focus on collaboration, companies are able to repeat this initial success over and over.

Where are you based?

Dataiku has offices in London, Paris, and New York.

When was the company launched?

Dataiku’s story began in Paris in 2013 when the founders set out to fill a void in the big data space. They wanted to provide one tool that would allow data science teams to clean, visualize, model, and deploy data projects all in one place. In 2014, the team launched the very first version of Dataiku Data Science Studio (DSS).

What have been your biggest wins to date?

We win when our customers win, which means when they save time, money, and resources, or when they gain additional revenue thanks to their data science efforts. We talk about some of those wins on our website.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

In general, Dataiku customers come from all industries, but what they have in common is that they generate vast amounts of data and have immense value to gain from making use of it. Potential customers range from small, agile startups to large multi-billion dollar businesses looking to start (or improve) data initiatives. No matter their size, they are highly motivated to quickly and easily deploy data projects into production.

Tell us about your team?

The entire Dataiku team is passionate about helping customers achieve their goals and support data innovation. What’s more, we’re ready to show the world that machine learning and big data don’t have to be messy and complicated in order to find success in data projects – data science is for everyone. Throughout 2017, the Dataiku team will continue to expand across all our locations and bring our passion for simple, structured data projects to even more industries and companies across the globe.

What are your long term plans for your product / company?

Predictive analytics and data science are still relatively new (and growing) fields in businesses today, which means they will continue to evolve rapidly even in the next few years. And as the Internet of Things (IoT), the number of connected devices, and the amount of unstructured data expands exponentially, big data technology is far from being static. So long-term, we plan to continue to stay ahead of the latest cutting-edge big data technologies. This will mean supporting customers’ latest machine learning initiatives, including deep learning. Dataiku is already anticipating the demand in this space and working on product improvements to be able to support it, but there will be other big data and data science developments in the near future that we plan to be nimble enough to adapt to!

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

We are an international team that collaborates on complicated data science projects, so we need our teams to communicate efficiently. We use Dataiku DSS for project collaboration and our custom Zoommeeting rooms for group project updates.

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

A time machine

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?

How does your organisation approach data?

We are a passionate team of ‘data nerds,’ so we love to hear about how organisations are making the most of their data.
