Describe the company – the elevator pitch …

Our mission at Apartial is to bring creativity to everybody. We want to inspire everyone from the leading art directors to the next generation of tattoo artists while supporting any creators that are taking risks and designing with a difference. Our focus is promoting unique portfolios, publishing inspiring articles, hosting original events and selling exceptional artwork.

How are you different?

Apartial differs from other creative platforms, as we don’t discriminate against any creative fields. We promote everybody that is creating unique work. From architects to street artists, surf photographers to tattoo artists, all our content shares a common bond of trying to inspire others to create and look at their surroundings differently.

Why will the company / product do well?

Essentially, it is the team that is key to Apartial’s future. We would be nothing without the work of the creatives as each portfolio brings something unique to the team. When you move around the site you see shots from Woody Gooch as he explores perfect surf in Indonesia, the various styles of the talented tattoo artists from Dublin Ink and everything in between. These are a group of creators and innovators that are constantly pushing the boundaries.

Where are you based?

Apartial is a passion project formed by two brothers (Mark and Stephen Leonard) from Dublin. But, the work comes from around the world as our team stretches 5 continents and continually explores new regions in search of original projects.

When was the company launched?

We launched in 2015 with the idea of showcasing the work of a group of innovators and creators who share a core ideal of doing something different.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

Our most significant step since launching Apartial came this summer as we headed to Liberia to reduce some of the stigma surrounding the region after the Ebola crisis and civil war. We attempted to teach a small group of surfers some creative skills so they could start to work as painters. Some of the world’s leading urban artists donated designs so the local team could hone their skills and transform some of the buildings that were destroyed during the war. This was our first non-profit event where we witnessed the power of art to inspire a community.

What are you long term plans for your product / company?

We’ll be focusing on the non-profit side of things in the near future with plans to spread our projects to more parts of Africa in 2017. We’re also aiming to collaborate with more creators in our upcoming work to highlight different talent out there. The Liberia Project brought together some of Ireland’s leading creators as Conor Harrington, Maser, Ted Pim and Motherland all played a part. But, Ireland is home to some insanely talented artists that we’d love to work with. Le Bas, James Earley, DMC and Joe Caslin are just a few of the names that we’re hoping to collaborate with for future projects.

In the long-term, we’re aiming to empower creators that have the potential to capture stories and show people a different side to the world. We’re hoping to connect and support people around the globe that can initiate their own projects with a long-term goal of spreading creativity to everyone.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

Our mission wouldn’t be possible without portable projectors. They give our artists the assurance that the work will be accurate. They give our local team the flexibility they need in areas with no electricity or rough settings. They’re high enough quality that they provide clear images but cheap enough that they can be donated to the local team so they can continue the work after we leave. All in all, they’re a key gadget to the success of our projects.
