As climate change becomes an increasing challenge, we look at this book which aims to help encourage and support those looking to tread more lightly on the earth through adopting a vegan diet. This book is written by by Ian Theasby and Henry David Firth and you can buy Bosh! How to Live Vegan here.

BOSH!: How to Live Vegan, Save the planet & feel amazing, reviewed

First up, this is a quick read. It is straight forward, no BS, and written from the perspective of people who have gone through the journey from eating meat to a growing awareness about why it might not be the best way to help both themselves and the planet. The authors describe this journey well, in an understandable and ultimately convincing way. We are not vegans (yet) but we can see why it might be the smart thing to do, for personal health, and also the benefit of the planet too.

There is a lot of useful myth busting in the book too, addressing concerns about the impact on your own health by removing meat and animal based products from your diet. Overall there seem to be many upsides and not too many downsides. Personally blue cheese might be the biggest challenge of adopting a more plant based diet. They have some great stats about a variety of meat free burgers too, even animal free meat – yes that does sound counter intuitive, but we are starting to see the price of laboratory grown meat falling in price to point where it can compete with traditional meat products.

It is definitely an interesting space, and, unlike the 90s and subsequent decades, now, there are many many more plant based substitutes for milk and meat products. This makes it much easier to pursue a vegan diet. Now that Lidl, Aldi and the like stock multiple, dairy free, milk products it is clear that accessibility and price are no longer the barriers that they once were. Which then makes it easier to do the right thing, rather than it merely being an option for those who can afford this type of diet.

It is a good book, smartly presented, and helps to illustrate why many are making the move to being vegan.

WE LIVE ON THE VEG

Whether you’re looking to overhaul your entire philosophy around what you eat, or simply looking for meat-free Monday inspiration, we’ve got your back.

WE LOVE FOOD

Like, really love it. We don’t do dull dinners and want to spread the word: going more plant-based doesn’t need to be restrictive or boring. In fact, it can be downright delicious.

WE DIG THE PLANET

The production of meat requires huge outlays of pesticides, fertilizer, fuel and water while releasing greenhouse gases. Eating more plants is a small change that makes a big ol’ impact.
