Bobstock 2020 Virtual Gig, Oesophageal Cancer Fund, July 4th

Bobstock 2020, in aid of the Oesophageal Cancer Fund (OCF), was to take place in Cotter’s Bar, Cape Clear Island on July 4th , but due to the Covid 19 crisis we had to cancel the event. However, we are running a Virtual Bobstock at 7pm on July 4th on our Bobstock Cape Clear Facebook Page to help raise funds for the OCF! All of the acts who were due to perform at this year’s event, along with a few very special guests, have recorded songs especially for the night!

Bobstock 2020 Virtual Gig fundraiser for Oesophageal Cancer Fund

We have created a fundraiser below, so donation to the OCF is very simple and straightforward.

The OCF, like many charities, has been particularly badly hit by the current Covid 19 crisis, as most of their fundraising events have been cancelled. The OCF raise awareness of oesophageal cancer and raise funds for much-needed research. Please check out their webpage to see where all the money raised is used.

How many years has it been going?

The first Bobstock was in 2001 and was founded by Bob Carter who was the owner of Cotter’s Bar on Cape Clear. It ran for a couple of years until Bob sold the premises. We revived it in 2018 when the current owners asked me (John Phelan) to do a gig on the weekend of July 7th 2018. That date is my mother in law’s birthday who we sadly lost to oesophageal Cancer in 2015. We decided to make the gig a fundraiser in her memory and so Bobstock was reborn.

What exciting things can people look forward to?

This year’s event will be a show case of the musicians who were due to play at this year’s event, and some other acts too, including Ollie Cole (Turn), Ian Doyle (The Man Whom), Fiachna Ó Braonáin (The Hothouse Flowers), Windings, Malojian, Brian Mooney (The Idiots), Basciville, Dave Long (Into Paradise), The Mule Skinner Boys, FallAway House, Danny Stewart, Cape Folk, Corvax, Huts on Stilts, Mary O’Driscoll, Leah O’Donoghue, Colm O’Rourke, Bob Carter and One Morning in August.

What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?

To see the event properly, please use headphones or speakers as the sound is the most important aspect of the video. If possible, it will be best viewed on a smart tv or tablet!

How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?

This is a free event, but we really hope that people watching who haven’t already donated will donate online to the OCF on the fundraiser pinned to the top of our Bobstock Cape Clear Facebook page. After the event takes place, it will be possible to view it on Facebook for a few days.

Anything else you’d like to add!

We really hope that the event will run as planned in 2021, and all of the acts and more have all agreed to be part of the real thing in 2021. We’d like to thank everyone for their help in putting together Bobstock 2020, especially the acts and Stephen Byrne who has edited it all!

When things begin to open up again, Cape Clear will be a great place to holiday in Ireland!
