BlockW Host Interesting New Breakfast Event On Blockchain on May 30th

When and where is it on?

BlockW’s first breakfast event on ‘Blockchain Standards and Popular Use Cases’ is being held at the National College of Ireland next Thursday, 30th May at 7.30am.

How many years has it been going?

Our first event took place last September, so we are still a relatively new association having been around for about nine months.

What was the inspiration to start BlockW?

The idea behind BlockW emerged out of a desire to provide a platform for communication, education, and the discussion of ideas, bridging the gap between the impossible and the possible for women in blockchain. Given the growth and opportunities in the sector in Ireland, we were conscious that we were still lacking an open, informative, and inclusive blockchain community, and that was something we were eager to address. As a female-led association, we were also inspired to start BlockW as a means to address the gender imbalance in the blockchain industry and help remove this barrier. Our mission is to raise awareness of blockchain in a bid to showcase its relevance and potential for all.

What exciting things can people look forward to?

The success of our meet-up series in Dublin has inspired us to roll it out to other major tech cities in Ireland. We are also planning to expand our scope of activities beyond meet-ups.

What opportunities are on offer for those attending?

Apart from being a valuable networking opportunity, our meet-ups offer attendees quality content and the perfect chance to learn from international blockchain experts working across different industries from social impact and supply chain to finance and regulation. It is also an opportunity to connect directly with the speakers, the BlockW founders, and our community.

Who will be speaking?

This meet-up, which is the seventh in the series but the first breakfast session, will host a panel discussing the importance of standards within the blockchain industry. Speakers include; Mary White (NSAI), Niall Dennehy (AID:Tech), Liam Brogan (Downstream), Dr Phillipa Ryan (International ISO TC 307), and Fiona Delaney (Origin Chain).

What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?

We would encourage attendees to research the ISO TC 307 (Blockchain Standards) group, along with the speakers and their businesses so you can ask targeted questions and get the most out of this meet-up.
