By @SimonCocking, review of the latest blockchain / bitcoin book to cross our desk, see other reviews here. Bitcoin Pizza: The No-Bullshit Guide to Blockchain by Samantha Radocchia. Available from Amazon here.
When you hear the word blockchain, what’s your reaction? Do you think it’s a fad that’s been overhyped but will soon be forgotten? Or maybe you have a vague understanding of how the technology works, but you’re unsure of how it will impact your life.
Neither reaction is wrong. Blockchain and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are still in their infancy—but they will soon fuel a worldwide cultural and technological paradigm shift that will disrupt every major industry: finance, supply chain, film and arts distribution, digital rights, automotive, social media, data security, real estate, and more.
In Bitcoin Pizza, Sam Radocchia offers an eye-opening exploration of what blockchain is and how it will radically change our world. Whether you’re an executive looking to prepare your business for a decentralized future or a newcomer curious about the blockchain hype, this fun and relatable guide will give you the confidence to explore this technology in more detail by first showing you the big picture. Instead of looking at blockchain with trepidation, you’ll come away thrilled by the possibilities.
Bitcoin Pizza: The No-Bullshit Guide to Blockchain, August 2019, reviewed
We’ve been sent a lot of bitcoin and blockchain books to review in the last two years. Some have been great, some have told you it was all a scam, and some have been academic, boring and badly written. This one, by Samantha Radocchia is, thankfully an accessible, interesting and useful read. She negotiates a good balance between not going too deep too quickly, to ensure that newbies are able to follow her train of thought. Then, for those who have a more nuanced knowledge, and are probably not ‘nocoiners’ she has some insightful and considered views on what has come to pass so far.
The book covers the whole ten year plus roller coaster since ‘Satoshi Nakamoto’ laid out her / his / their view on the potential for a distributed global currency. Whatever your own personal feelings on bitcoin, it has continued to accumulate in value, certainly from its days when the infamous pizza was bought for 16,000 of them. Radocchia writes well and accessibly, we enjoyed reading this book, and would pass it on to others looking to get up to speed on bitcoin, altcoins, and crypto and blockchain in general. Her digression into keto was also interesting and informative, we had been wondering why we were hearing such a crossover of terms.
As we move further along the Gartner hype curve in terms of blockchain technologies this is a timely, well written, accessible and engaging book to read.
