When is it on?

From May 2 to 5, 2017 in Stuttgart, Germany

How many years has it been going?

This is the 22nd edition of FMX (the event started in 1994 and has become an annual event ever since)

What exciting things can people look forward to for the 2017 version?

People can look forward to look “Beyond the Screen” – which is our 2017 slogan and contemplates the fact that entertainment and media increasingly moves out of designated theatres and limited screen-frames into our daily lives. That is why we have a lot of VR attractions in store, which will be illuminated by renowned speakers (cf. press release, Dear Angelica, BBC Home: Spacewalk and Google VR Productions, to name only some of them). We also have presentations on theme parks (such as the ones that are being designed by Universal Japan) in store and look into what’s new in Digital Cinematography, Virtual Humans, etc. Our website provides an insight into more highlights (the whole program will be available by the end of the month)

What opportunities are on offer for people / startups / investors and companies attending?

The general audience is invited to participate in basically all events to either dig into the content (conference program with presentations), look to further their career (Recruiting Hub), seek to study Animation or VFX or related subjects (School Campus), find about the latest products (Marketplace) or receive insights into software and hardware in dedicated Workshops, Masterclasses and Company Suites. Investors are able to meet interesting companies or speakers from around the world. And companies and start-ups can make use of the Marketplace, Recruiting Hub, or Workshops, Masterclasses and Company Suites. In addition, FMX hosts a select number of CEO Summits for decision makers across the industries, which are on-invite-only.

What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?

I’d advise them to book their hotel early (since so many events take place around May), get here before the events starts and stay until the weekend (May 7) to get the most of their week in Stuttgart, since the International Festival of Animated Film (our long-standing partner event) is taking place in parallel, offering conference attendees the possibility to purchase a combi ticket to round off their evenings at the festival. Even just a conference pass to FMX will not make you miss out on the festival experience: there are open air screenings on all evenings of FMX at the festival garden at the Schlossplatz, just a few steps from the Haus der Wirtschaft.

How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?

People can book tickets via the ticket shop linked to the FMX website – people should make sure to purchase their tickets earlier than March 31st, because that’s when the Early Bird Rebate runs out. Be sure to catch your ticket now, because you never now how quickly tickets sell out on-site!

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?

FMX makes for a unique conference experience, since it offers such a multi-faceted, broad program, but remains intimate and accessible at the same time, making it a community-based event that actually allows for personal exchange and great networking. Plus: it’s May, a perfect spring month to travel to Stuttgart.
