Alisha Bee, interview
Bee yourself, supporting eco-friendly projects to save bees
What is your background briefly?
I am an entrepreneur and creative professional from Mesa, Arizona, U.S. My career background includes a 20-year tour through various roles in retail, sales and marketing. My work has touched into executive assistance, brand marketing, sales, graphic design, office administration, event production, community education, business consulting, eco-activism and journalism. Although already making it on her own, I once parented a person who just graduated from university.
Does it seem like a logical background to what you do now?
All signs point to “yes”. A nickname from my childhood was “Alisha Bee”. I see that I was groomed to consider the feelings of others and to care about the Earth and all her inhabitants. Frankly speaking, throughout childhood, adolescence, I did not hold a vision for what my life’s quality or purpose would be. But, I had seen models for how-to be industrious, how-to influence others and how to positively impact large numbers of people.
Historically, my relatives both distant and current are pioneers that have accomplished truly great things. For example, although my uncle and his immediate family are the sole owners of my grandparents’ family farm, it still holds top honors for producing high-quality Cotton crops for brand name products. Now that I work full-time in the business world, I am more cognizant than ever how important Nature and the outdoors are to me. This awareness ignited my passion and I have since integrated together my interests in sustainable business, green technologies and growing plants in more healthy ways.
1 min pitch for what you are doing now?
Registered in Arizona, U.S. I founded and manage Wind, Bees & Earth PLLC. We are a privately owned “green technologies” firm that specializes in low-impact and regenerative I.P. that can be monetized. The purpose for our work is to donate our net income back to a community non-profit organization called Pollinator Support Movement. I currently Direct PSM.
We are proud to be on-track to grow and scale alongside our Clients. Our list of high-tech Clients includes a restorative oil amendment producer from the U.S. and a famous sustainable energy company from Europe and Canada. The money made from sales byWind, Bees & Earth PLLC of our client’s products, services and technologies is to fund projects that are directed by PSM. Including, eco-friendly projects that save local bees and restores community food supply systems.
Can we turn things around in terms of the climate change issues we have created?
Perhaps I share a common fear that I have contributed to an irreversible set of circumstances that will destroy, alter and in all conceivable ways continue to affect all lives and existences occurring and to occur here on Earth. But, I work each day with the hope and belief that working with the Earth to turn things around and improve outcomes (to a certain extent) may be possible. As such, now that I am aware of the endless eco-restoration infrastructure projects that must be accomplished in my calculated lifetime, my team and I are truly busy bees.
How important are solitary bees as well as honey bees?
Native solitary bees are as close to our next-door neighbors as any bees could be. The term “native” implies that they are local, which they are. The term “solitary” implies that these local bees live alone, which they do. Looking at the bigger picture of food production and beautification of Earth’s many gardens, as time marches on, learning how to manage native solitary bees for pollinating crops and gardens of all sizes will be totally necessary. This is due to the high number of Honey bee deaths and disappearances.
Of the 24,000+ types of bees on Earth, over ¾ of them are native solitary bees. Unlike a Honey bee, a local bee will forage, procreate and prepare food for her young, all by herself. Native bees will stay in their homes their entire life and only fly within a few hundred meters.
In the case of comparing pollination efficiency for food and fauna production, smaller native bees can pollinate orchards, fields and greenhouses at unlikely ratios that make Honey bees seem lazy. But, that is not the case. Honey bees just happen to be much larger in size than their native solitary bee counterparts.
Native solitary bees can be managed in many situations and for most crop types requiring pollination services. The native solitary bee named “Leafcutter bee“ makes cocoons for her young by carefully cutting portions of leaves away, and then rolling them up into cylinders with capped ends. By comparison, Honey bees have been tracked to fly up to 10-miles and are increasingly difficult to manage (because they die or disappear).
More about all working bees: did you know that no matter their name, all worker bees you see are females? It’s true! It is also interesting to note that Honey bees are not native to the U.S. Local solitary bees are docile and not interested in stinging unless they or their homes are directly threatened. There are even completely stingless bees, too! Ultimately, it is my opinion that the sick and failing Honey bees be allowed to retire their managed pollination duties whenever possible. Although solitary bees stay closer nearby,Entomology Today (2018) shares that they are certainly brought into contact with toxic chemicals and environments.
What stories / approaches do you find inspire people to get involved?
Essentially, my work and business is to promote other works and businesses. I think that the wisest storytellers consider their audiences worthy of the best that life has to offer. The stories I see worth telling now, are those that have a clear narrative and a selfless call-to-action. Stories that I prefer to share and receive revolve around things going well, people getting the support they needed at the critical moment they needed it.
Not merely for entertainment, I see that the stories that impact us all the most are those of self-realization, vulnerability, humility and sharing. If someone asked what I wanted to see more of, I would ask that storytellers rally their readers with tales of abundance and first promote stories of those freeing others from enslavement of any kind.
Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?
Everyone should be given access to education, information and support that will uplift them and help them to develop a top-quality existence. In this way, I believe that education and compassion are the tools for which we can try to make fruitful amends with each other and with the Earth. I invite everyone to begin healing the Earth by making amends with the bees and learning something new that helps you to protect them. Do you like food? No bees, no food. And, to learn why taking too much honey from Honey bees is a terrible idea, click here.
