Battery Saving tips

We all love our smart phones but there’s one drawback. They consumer a hell of a lot more juice then feature phones and that means having to carry around a charger or spare battery when you’re really using heavily. There are some things you can do to prolong the battery life on days when you need it. First off, and this may be obvious but plug in your smartphone when ever you get a chance, also make sure you’re running the latest version of your OS (operating system) as more than likely this will be the most efficient release. See our 101 sections for details:

BlackBerry

iOS

Android

Turn off the following if not needed:

Near Field Communication, Bluetooth, vibration alert, gps and location based services, wifi

Others

Turn off 3G and switch to EDGE/GPRS if you’re only making or receiving calls or text emails

Shut down apps running in the background that you’re not using

Turn down screen brightness and reduce the time it takes for it to turn off or turn the screen off once you’ve used the device

Reduce the ringtone alert time and switch to a simpler tones

When browsing use mobile sites. They usually start with “m.”.

Push/pull information less. As in change Facebook and twitter to longer times between post updates. Change email push times as well.

Use Auto shut off if your device has this feature (As BlackBerry ones do)

Use wired mic’d headphones instead of wireless ones.

Don’t watch movies and listen to music

Use simple backgrounds on your smartphones home screen

Other more expensive tips:

Buy a second battery or extended battery
