FinTech 20 Ireland is a celebration of Ireland’s top financial technology Companies for 2016, as voted for by leading industry experts. Ahead of tomorrow’s event, our good friends at Jobbio take a look at how to attract the best industry Talent, featuring insights from FinTech 20 Ireland nominee and AQMetrics COO, Claire Savage.

Set the bar high

FinTech by its nature is a complex sector. Due to its relatively new existence, it’s not always possible to find candidates that have experience in a similar role or company. Look for transferable skills rather than transferable experience and search for people who can add value to your team through excellence, innovation and analytical thought.

Champion diversity

Earlier this year, a report by Innovate Finance revealed that of the leading 50 European FinTech firms, only 5% of the top executive roles were held by women. At AQMetrics both the CEO and COO are female which Claire says is quite unique for Irish FinTech Companies.

“We strongly believe that a diverse team produces the best results.”

At AQMetrics, they run #WomenInFunds events at the global fund industry gatherings, to connect the community and create a network which is sadly lacking.

Focus on your employer brand

Establishing your employer brand is key in attracting the best Talent in any sector! You want to give employees an insight into what it’s like to work at your Company. Tell the world exactly what you’re looking for in an employee. FinTech companies are largely startups, requiring their employees to adapt quickly and undertake a range of roles. If that’s the case at your firm, let candidates know. The more open you are, the more likely you’ll find the right fit for your team.

Utilise events

Whether it’s a conference, a seminar or a think-in, events are an important element of working in FinTech. Claire says this is especially true as technologies evolve and stricter regulations are introduced.

“At AQMetrics we are excited to see the Financial Regulators starting to work closely with FinTech firms, via workshops, masterclasses, provision of sandbox environments and other industry collaborations.”

Networking events too are a great way to connect with your peers, prospective clients, possible partners and even potential employees. They allow you to pique the interest of passive or open Talent and educate them on what you’re about, in an organic and discreet way.
