Assassins Creed Unity

On the 13th November, Assassins Creed Unity will be hitting the shelves as Ubisofts 7th major release of the Assassins Creed franchise. Set on the dark, ruthless and starving streets of 1789 Paris during the French Revolution, Unity features the most immersive and detailed city of the series to date.

Our protagonist in Unity is Arno Dorian. He is a French native, from Versailles, who was adopted following the death of his father, a member of the Brotherhood of Assassins. His new family are prominent within the Templar Order, including his adoptive father who is the Templar Grandmaster. It is the death of his adoptive father that launches him on his quest, leading him to rise through the ranks of the Brotherhood of Assassins, following the footsteps of his ancestors.

As with the previous releases, Ubisoft have redeveloped the combat for Unity. Fencing is the inspiration in Paris, and we see the introduction of the Phantom Blade. It works like a crossbow, firing a projectile silently over great distance, as well as serving as the hidden blade we all know and love. There is a greater appreciation of the Parkour style in Unity, with Arno learning new moves and purchasing abilities throughout the game. Using a new skill tree you can assign points to improve Arno’s stealth or combat. Players have more control than ever over the style of play and character development.

A new video, entitled “Time Anomaly” has been released featuring our hero thrust from revolutionary Paris into the turbulent times of World War II. It’s unclear how this will fit into the overall story-line, and rumours are circulating that it could be related to the earlier leaked ‘rift mode’, where you play as different Assassins throughout history on challenge maps.

Controversy has arisen over the minimum specs for PC, as even the minimum specs would be out of reach of the average PC gamer. The minimum video card needed is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 or AMD Radeon HD 7970, both of which are just under 3 years old. When you see the trailers, it’s easy to see why the specs are so high, but there may be quite a few disappointed gamers upon release.
