Do you know who has gotten, or who is using, your information
Organisers of the largest Irish-run cyber-security conference are urging people in Ireland to take the opportunity on Data Privacy Day (January 28th) to conduct a valuable check-up on their online profile and identity.
This year’s ZeroDayCon in Dublin takes place on March 7th at The Convention Centre Dublin, and will focus on how rapidly emerging technologies are redefining cyberspace. This includes how information that you place on-line will be used in the future.
While there is huge personal responsibility to manage our own information on-line, there is growing pressure on industry to ensure data is protected. One of the themes of the conference will be how public and private organisations are protecting critical infrastructure from cyber-criminals who use artificial intelligence to steal information.
Ronan Murphy of ZeroDayCon says ‘We’re all so busy online that we just tick whatever box pops up on our screen if it means we can read that article or sign up to a special offer in a hurry. Why not use today as a chance to review what you’re signed up to, and who’s got access to your information?”
Data Privacy Day is designed to raise awareness and promote privacy and data protection best practices
Ronan Murphy has this advice for anyone with an online presence; “Go to the settings in your social media accounts and double check what privacy options you’ve selected. Read back through your subscription emails and make sure you only keep the ones you need. At the end of the day, the internet is the most amazing tool to have in our lives, but we need to make sure it’s working for us, not the other way around.
“Keeping track of where our information is going can seem like a pain but don’t forget it’s a very valuable commodity for some businesses and you should value it too’.
ZeroDayCon2019 – The Age of Disruption – takes place at The Convention Centre Dublin on March 7th.
