APPChat, 7th September, Tower Hotel, Waterford

When and where is it on?

APPChat is on 7th September, Tower Hotel, Waterford.

How many years has it been going?

This is the first one, if successful we will expand to the regions etc.

What was the inspiration to start it?

As part of my media duties, especially Radio stations, Damien Tiernan, Fmr. RTE correspondent, host of Deisetoday on WLR FM approached me to do a special social media workshop for Parents, Guardians in Waterford. Damien has a real interest in the area and is genuinely concerned about the consequences. As a result we are giving it a go on 7th September in the Tower Hotel, Waterford.

What exciting things can people look forward to?

Genuine, honest, realistic thoughts on social media, the scary, the good, the plain evil. All in a level headed fashion, forged from speaking with100’s of primary and post primary schools in the UK and Ireland over the last 4 years. It will be positive, uplifting session intended to improve peoples lives online.

What opportunities are on offer for those attending?

This is a significant contribution to the discussion and thinking around use / mis use of Social Media, Phones and Gaming. We will offer guidance on the important matters of how to safety use social media and Phones, the Internet in general. We will also talk about the new research highlighting positivity in regards to social media.

1. When and how to use Social Media
2. What are the biggest issues for each age group
3. What rules should we set for each group
4. Setting up Social Media correctly
5. Banning Phones | Does that work?

6.  For Teenagers | We’lltalk to self harm, sexting, online reputation.

We will debunk myths that Snapchat is all bad.

We also have a session for Teenagers; where we will talk about getting ready for Adulthood,

Netiquette, safe phone usage,

Sexting, hate messaging, consequences.

And most importantly building a great online reputation to drive sports, college, relationship, job and ultimately careers. Online Reputation

Who will be speaking?

Damien Tiernan hosts, Our speaking Team will be there including Graham Mulhern.

What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?

Bring an open mind, don’t be afraid to ask questions, the speakers are there to help. Parents of children attending Primary School will find this especially helpful,

How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?
