What is the event?
‘Adminovate’ is a new breed of industry conference that we’ve created as a full-day event featuring engaging speakers arranged into keynotes and panels on innovation, people and technology with a startup showcase as well.
Our focus is the investment funds industry in Ireland that employs nearly 15,000 people and is a significant segment of the International Financial Services sector. We’re bringing together 300 attendees and 35+ industry experts to educate people on the shape of things to come and inspire them to challenge the status quo.
When and where is the event?
The event is on Wednesday, 10th January 2018 in the Edmund Burke Theatre in Trinity College Dublin. Adminovate is a not-for-profit event with all proceeds beyond costs of facilities and catering going to Trinity Access Programmes and basis.point. The co-founders of Adminovate are Fund Recs and Norio Ventures.
What was the inspiration to start it?
A quote from Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, an aspiring computer scientist from the last century, sums it up: “The most dangerous phrase in the language is ‘We’ve always done it this way’”. The crew at FundRecs started the FinDig meetup in January 2016 to bring together those in the funds industry interested in innovation and challenging “the old way”. Pushing back on inertia is hard, and there is strength in numbers.
When Alan Meaney and Des O’Donohoe first suggested earlier in 2017 that we take the concept of FinDig and make a full day out of it, it just seemed like the right thing to do. Having been a part of FinDig since the first meetup in January 2016, I really felt compelled to help turn the vision into a reality. When we decided to give a leg up to those most in need through the charities we’ve selected, while also educating and inspiring the next generation of leaders in the funds industry, it was a no-brainer.
What exciting things can people look forward to for the inaugural event?
We’re covering a wide spectrum of topics for a single day – regtech, millennials, fintech, the ‘Future of Work’, investor servicing, blockchain, fund managers and fund administration. Lunch will be in the historic Dining Hall with origins dating to the year 1760. We’ll also have a startup showcase and competition, and of course, the post-event drinks
What opportunities are on offer for those attending?
First and foremost, we’ve arranged the agenda so that there are learning opportunities for all combined with a healthy dose of networking. For those unfamiliar with the investment funds industry, the opportunity is to learn about the industry and hopefully inspire innovation in whatever they’re doing. We would be thrilled if people finished the day with an exhale of “wow, that was worth my time” and they had a bit of fun as well. Above all else, the altruistic drive of Adminovate means that the outcomes will be beneficial to all.
Who will be speaking?
We’ve lined up over 35 speakers across financial and technological disciplines, from senior managers to front-line leaders to blockchain experts and ‘people’ persons. See here for the lineup of speakers announced to date and their bios.
What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?
We’ve built Adminovate to be like a star-packed movie with a beginning, a middle and an end. To get the most out of, plan on coming for the whole day, and come with an open mind and a smile on your face. Also, wear what you’d wear on a Saturday!
How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?
Just click on the tickets link on the Adminovate website, and group discounts are available. Get your tickets now to beat the Christmas rush!
Why is this event different?
Adminovate is different because we’re purpose-driven by a vision larger than putting money in our own pockets. We also don’t take ourselves too seriously and realize that we need to be entertaining as well as educational and inspiring. The funds industry has come a long way, and is entering a period of significant change – we’d like Adminovate to have a role in shaping the upcoming journey.
