Actavo, an international engineering solutions company, has partnered with CityFibre, the UK’s leading alternative provider of wholesale full fibre network infrastructure, to complete a roll-out of CityFibre’s major new Fibre-to-the-Premises project in Aberdeen.
The construction contract is for a two-year period commencing at the start of 2019 and the project will be delivered by Actavo’s Network and In-Home Division. The new network will enable Aberdeen residents access to ultrafast broadband services of up to 1000Mbps from Vodafone.
As one of the first cities to benefit from a full-fibre roll-out, Aberdeen is set to become a beacon of digital transformation. CityFibre’s existing 100km core fibre network, which is already supported by Actavo, was launched in 2015 to serve Aberdeen’s business community. This will now be expanded city-wide to reach nearly every home and business in the city.
Actavo has significant experience in the UK, United States, the Caribbean and throughout Ireland in the delivery of network build for fibre cable for high-speed broadband. The company’s experience includes the Virgin Fibre Network UK, network build in Ireland for SIRO and Virgin and the delivery of the Digicel fibre network across the Caribbean.
John Franklin, Operations Director at CityFibre said: “This partnership with Actavo takes us a step closer to bringing transformative connectivity to Aberdeen. Once installed, this will mark a step change in the city’s competitiveness and bring incredibly fast, reliable connections to people’s homes.”
“We look forward to commencing this long-term relationship with CityFibre and in supporting the company with its expansion plans, initially in Aberdeen. It is very much the ethos of Actavo to work in partnership with our customers and to be part of the delivery of this project demonstrates the confidence our clients have in our ability to deliver complex projects, including here in Scotland,” said Traoloch Collins, Managing Director, Actavo UK & Ireland. “This is an exciting project that will allow us to leverage the experience we have gained over the last 30 years rolling out networks globally.”
Actavo has an existing strong presence in Scotland and is a lead partner to Scottish Power in the rollout of its Smart Metering programme in the UK. The company places a major emphasis in delivery and operational excellence and safety is its number one priority. The experienced Actavo team that will deliver the project in Aberdeen combines expertise, strength and operational excellence. This is combined with an expertise in project design and a proven ability to scale.
Actavo’s customers include Virgin Media Ireland; Sky Ireland; SIRO; ScottishPower; Digicel; Magnox; Mossmorran; Office of Public Works; Sisk; Speedy PLC; ExxonMobil; Chevron; MCD; Festival Republic; Garda Síochána (the Irish police force), Electric Ireland; BAM; Verizon; Google; and Crown Castle.
