Drones also are known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles have been utilizing for researching purposes for the biologists. And they are also used by the hobbyists. At present they have become familiar with ordinary people around the world. Actually, drones have made the research of a researcher easy and effective. The data a biologist may need was almost impossible for some regions. But with the assistance of a drone, it has become more convenient to capture the data a biologist may need.

Drones or UAVs are not only used to animal conservation but for archeological purposes also. There are some unexcavated archeological sights which are almost impossible to discover with even a helicopter or similar aircraft. But a drone with HD video camera can do the job easily.

Since drones can be used for various purposes and researches out there, but in today’s article, we are not going to cover all of them but only animal research using drones. Yes, it will be more effective and convenient to keep an eye on the animal’s behavioral and physiological stress. One thing you have to consider carefully that you should not do any harm while researching using drones. From our experience, it is found that animals sometimes get puzzled and find no way what to do then.

So, we are going to tell you a few things that should take into consideration while using drones or UAVs to monitor wildlife. Sometimes, some unskilled controller harm to the animals and end up without gathering needed research documents they need. In this case, they should take assistance from experts.

Make sure you are not disturbing the wildlife

Responses toward the drones or UAVs vary for a different animal. In this case, you have to find out actually how they get disturbed and why. If you can find the solution, you can minimize the disturbance the wildlife. Some animals may flee away hearing the unknown sound they never hear.

On the other hand, some birds may not fly as they may lay eggs or feed their hatchlings. Sometimes, it so happens that some birds can try to enter into the drones. As a result, drones can do untold harm to the birds.

Also, studies say that in the Polar region where taking samples are almost impossible for the inaccessibility, a drone can do the work for you. But the penguins were found to be disturbed while the drone was at low altitudes. The same thing happened to the bears. They are more responsive to the drones. While some bears fitted with cardiac bio-loggers found the flight of a UVA, their heart rates increased in a dramatic way from 50 to 123 beats per minute. It is very strange, but it gets back its previous position as long as the drone went away.

Conversely, some bears showed no response to the flight of the drones or UVAs. But it does not mean that they were not disturbed, but a bit stressed of course. So, according to the code of practice with a drone to monitor animals’ research, it is recommended to minimize the disturbance to the animals

What a drone can do for you

Drones have made the biologists’ research easier and enriched a lot than before. They have added massive advantages to the research. They can go flawlessly and collect data for you where you never thought of going there even with a helicopter. But to capture clear data from the region or terrain, all you need to have an HD video camera with your drone. It can take high-resolution images or data. It may take days to collect this data.

Do you follow the code of practice?

A code of practice has been developed for the researchers as well as the hobbyists. The purpose of the code is to mitigate the possible disturbance and harms to the wildlife. Sometimes, the disturbance reached at a higher level for the wildlife, and that’s why the code was developed to practice.

In this code, it is recommended to use the equipment that lessens the disturbance of wildlife. Drone’s sound, its color, its approaches and so many things related should be minimized while operating a drone for your research on animals. By breaking any rules, you will be responsible as an operator of your drone.

The code says that you can operate your drone and continue your research. But your drone should not fly as close as they have their food. In this case, they become more fearful and flee away fast. So, keep in mind that you can minimize the disturbance of wildlife. By avoiding a few flight types like trajectories or sporadic flight movement, you can protect them from being disturbed.

So, maintaining a minimum distance from animals while operating a UVA flight can save them from getting stressed. As a result, their heartbeats increase in a strange way.

Continue your research but not disturbing them

Research is also important to save wildlife as well. After the invention of drones, it is now possible to save animals from any possible danger. It has become more convenient to observe their movement and also their migration. But having not enough skills, sometimes it goes wrong and becomes a cause for their disturbance. It should not continue to disturb them while operating our flights with the drones. It will be wise to gather sufficient knowledge from an expert and then start researching wildlife. The same conception is also applicable for the hobbyists along with the biologists.

Final thought

Drones or UAVs are a revolution, we should say in the field of monitoring wildlife sitting on your chair at your office. But you also have to consider that you should use only low-impact researching techniques so that the wildlife never disturbed. It has a bad impact on their eating, giving birth and many more. So, they should not be disturbed anymore. Not only the biologists but the hobbyists should use drones for the betterment of the animals but not for their disturbance.
