Using #hashtags on Twitter
When something happens in the world, it happens on Twitter and hashtags have helped to galvanise some of the most important moments in the past. Thursday August 23rd is the 11th birthday of the hashtag and at this point it should really be marked by naming the day International #HashtagDay. By using hashtags people around the world have made Twitter their microphone, shaped our culture and changed the world.
Once you’ve started using Twitter, it won’t take long before you come across what’s known as a hashtag. The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorise messages.
You can use the hashtag symbol # before a relevant keyword or phrase (no spaces) in your Tweet to categorise the Tweet and help it show more easily in a Twitter search. When you click on a hashtag in any message it will show you all other Tweets marked with that keyword. If you Tweet with a hashtag on a public account, anyone who does a search for that hashtag may find your Tweet.
A hashtag is simply a way for people to search for Tweets that have a common topic. For example, if you type #worldcup or #WomensWorldCup or #WWC2019 into the search Twitter box at the top of any Twitter page and hit enter, you’ll get a list of Tweets related to the Women’s World Cup.
#Travel: The hashtag for all your jealousy-inducing pics and Tweets. Show off what you’re getting up to and the wonderful places you’ve explored.

#FridayReads: Engage with a community of bookworms to find book suggestions, give your opinion on interesting stories and find like-minded fellows who you can engage with along your reading journey.

#Fitness: Find some workout inspo or share your fitness journey. If you’re looking for those #gainz, just hoping to tone that beach bod, or just confessing that you cheated yourself, then #Fitness is the place for you.

#Foodie: Everything you love and loathe from the world of gastronomy

#Parenting: Sometimes #parentlife is hard and you just need to scream into the void.

Happy #HashtagDay!
