Describe the Company
Flyte provides a flight planning and operations management platform for the growing commercial drone sector. We give drone pilots more time to fly by reducing the planning and reporting time which can often taks up valuable time they could be in the air.
How are you different?
In simple terms, our system takes a lot the pain out flying drones for commercial purposes. One of our founding principles is built around the power of the intelligence and value of mapping technology, which has enabled us to take drone flight planning to the next level, allowing drone pilots to interact, annotate and document in detail the potential risks and hazards within their flight path.
Why will the company/product do well?
The commercial drone market is set to grow at an unprecedented rate over the next 3 years. It is estimated by 2020 in the USA alone, over 2.7 million commercial drone flights will take place annually. In order for businesses, both large and small, to take full advantage of drones, the flight planning and documentation process must be simple, and be able to handle thousands of potential flight plans taking place worldwide.
Our goal is to be at the centre of this growth, enabling scalable, well documented and safe integration into controlled airspace. We have partnered with some of the leading-edge drone companies, AirMap & DroneDeploy, to help ensure our customers deliver the best products to their own clients.

Where are you based?
We are based in Belfast, which in its own way has been a hub for aviation innovation for over 100 years. From Shorts to Bombardier, to Ferguson’s first flight in Ireland, to the place where the ejection seat was invented.
When was the company launched?
Well, the idea was cooked up over conversations between our two founders Matt and Kerr, both active drone pilots and qualified mapping professionals. The Flyte business journey started a little over a year ago where we embarked on a journey of ideation and development, winning a place on the Invest Northern Ireland Propel Programme.
What have been the most exciting moments to date?
In December we were one of the first Apps embedded inside the DroneDeploy App marketplace and since then we are starting to see customers from every corner of the globe.
Who is your target market?
We are focused on serving commercial drone pilots, however, we would also encourage active recreational drone pilots to explore better ways in which they can operate and fly safely.
We offer stripped-back, preflight checklists and airspace awareness through our DroneDeploy App, which anyone can check out right now. Making Flyte accessible for anyone to use is essential.

Tell us about your team?
Behind the scenes, there is myself, Matt Bradley and Kerr MacKinnon.
Matt fell in love with aviation when he was 13 when he first started flying and it has been a big part of his life ever since. Having developed professional technical mapping services for over 10 years, Matt firsthand witnessed how drones were going to change the face of multiple industries and the role for future technologies, not just for leisure purposes.
As well as being a commercial drone pilot himself, Kerr has worked closely with commercial drone pilots in his previous roles within the renewable energy sector. Kerr has extensive experience within the geographical information science sector delivering exceptional location-based products for a number of international bluechip clients.
