By @SimonCocking. See our review of Blaise’s last book here. Blaise Brosnan has a unique blend of practical top management experience gained over 25 years and is a business adviser to a range of Irish business types.
This is an interesting book, potentially it could be a little too much like a Forrest Gump, life is a box of fortune cookies type of series of parables*. However it is actually quite an enjoyable read. It is clustered around 47 chapters, which he says has been a significant number for him, it would have been interesting for him to have elaborated a little more on why so (though it is a prime number which is always slightly special in it’s own right).

In his introduction he suggests you dip into the book as and when you like and it would work in that way, as well as a linear read also. The chapters are short, but not so short as to not have some value and meaning to them. There is an interesting mix of his own life lessons and those of other interesting and celebrated thinkers and wise observers of life. I also found myself feeling inspired, possibly even despite myself at times!

There’s a lot of common sense, showing up is a large part of the battle, chip away at things, don’t worry about things that haven’t happened yet. However the reality for a lot of startups is probably that a large part of success is due to perseverance, doing the same things again and again, but making sure you do them well. Knowing when it’s time to change your strategy, and being able to see the big picture as well as temporary issues that arise.

His book aims to help dispense some of his experience learned over a long career, and a lot of it might just help some headstrong tyros to avoid some avoidable mistakes. This book might just make a great stocking filler for the entrepreneur in your life!
