Chinese company and Leading provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, Huawei, have offered a promising opportunity for university students around Ireland to take part in an immersive technology experience.
Huawei, who have been based in Ireland since 2004 and have ran this programme since 2015, works with several high-profile universities in the country to fund vital Irish research into video, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing. Students who participate will attend an exclusive online event where they will develop their understanding of the ICT industry while also learning about Chinese culture. Applications for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students are open now.
Huawei CEO, Tony Yangxu, Describes the Programme’s Benefits
“The programme works to give STEM students the skills and mind-set needed to be competitive in the workplaces of the future”, said Tony Yangxu, CEO of Huawei Ireland, when asked about the ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme.
Yangxu: “Tech companies have a real role to play in encouraging students to pursue STEM careers, and Huawei is proud to help those who take STEM courses be as well equipped to enter the workplace as possible”.
Last year, Huawei Ireland launched the ‘TECH4HER’ Scholarship Prgoramme in TU Dublin and UCD, which was aimed towards female STEM students. Their influence on Irish universities is increasing and is having more of a positive impact each year. Last year alone, over 35 students from eight universities took part in the ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme, one of which was Rachel Byrne of Trinity College.
Byrne: “One of the most important things I’ve learned from the programme is that each of us here share a similar vision – to make a positive impact on the world, whether it be through technology, healthcare, sustainability or business. To me, Huawei embodies the philosophy of unity. Connecting the world through 5G, changing people’s lives with AI”.
Students who wish to apply for the 2021 programme can send their CV and a reflective essay of their interests of between 400-600 words, also explaining why they feel they should be chosen for the programme to [email protected].
