The ProLab Finger Wireless Mouse is a coin size mouse that you can connect to your smartphone, tablet or computer via Bluetooth. It might be small but it still packs in a clickable trackball and 4 buttons to interact with your devices.

When I first came across the ProLab Finger Wireless Mouse I questioned just how useful or practical something this small could be but I was interested to find out.

I have been using a pre-release version of the ProLab Finger Wireless Mouse for the last few weeks to see how I could integrate it into my workflow and put it to good use.

What’s in the box

ProLab

Along with the ProLab Finger Wireless Mouse, you get a USB C cable for charging, and an adhesive ring that can be attached to the mouse to assist with holding it (more on that below)

As I mentioned above I have been using a pre-release version so what comes in the retail box may be slightly different.

The front face of the mouse has 4 buttons along with a clickable trackball which you will use for moving the cursor and selecting. The 4 buttons perform different task depending on what mode you are using.

On the side, there is a button for changing modes and a USB C port for charging.

The adhesive ring attaches to the back surface of the mouse. Once you’ve stuck it on, a steel ring unfolds which you can place on one of your fingers allowing you to hold the device securely and freeing up your thumb to press the buttons or scroll. This really works well as without the ring the device is difficult to hold and control in one has as it is so small.

If you want to then use the ProLab Finger Wireless Mouse on your desk you can fold the ring in neatly under the device. It’s simple but effective.

The device only weighs 8g so once you are holding it with the ring it is nearly unnoticeable.

When fully charged you can expect to get around 15 hours of use before needing to charge again.

ProLab Modes

There are 3 different modes available to select which change the functions of buttons on the device.

Mouse Mode

Mouse Mode, as the name probably suggests, tries to replicate a normal Mouse setup. In this mode the top and bottom button replicate the actions of a scroll wheel, the left button is the left mouse button and the right button is the right-click. The trackball is used to move the cursor and if you click the trackball it performs a drag and drop type function.

Keyboard Mode

Keyboard mode aims to replicate some of the page shifting functions on a keyboard. In this mode the top button is Page Up, the bottom button is Page Down, the left button is Home, the right button is End and the trackball moved the cursor and acts as the Enter key when clicked.

You can use these buttons when viewing websites and on different devices, they perform different task but the clear use for this mode is for when you are delivering a presentation and you want to navigate between slides and use the trackball as a pointer. It is a very easy device to use in this manner and your hand is still free to be used as the device is so small and attached to you via the ring.

Media Control Mode

Media Mode allows you to controls audio or video tracks and also allows you to control the shutter button on your camera when in use.

In this mode, the top and bottom button controls the volume while the left and right act as previous and next. Clicking the trackball plays and pauses.

While using it with your camera you can press the up or down button or click the trackball to take an image. This is very handy when taking selfies or if you want to set your phone down away from you to take a group shot fo example.

The media controls are also great. You can leave your phone down charging for example and still control playback. I have recently been taking Spanish lessons which often require you to pause the playback so you can figure out a sentence yourself before it gives it to you. It can be quite cumbersome waking the phone and hitting pause in time to using the ProLab Finger Wireless Mouse makes it really simple.

Conclusion

I have really enjoyed using the ProLab Finger Wireless Mouse. It is not something that you can replace a mouse with but it is certainly that would be really helpful to have in your backpack or laptop bag to use in certain circumstances like when you are giving a presentation or listening to music on a commute and you want to keep your phone safely tucked away.

The ProLab Finger Wireless Mouse has launched on Kickstarter today and you can find out more information about it and back the project here: https://bit.ly/3bfkkbk
