Chandigarh, The City of The Rock Garden

We all know Chandigarh, the union territory- the city which is capital of two states, Punjab and Haryana. The best attractions in Chandigarh is the famous rock garden built from waste materials. But how many of us know the real Chandigarh, the first city to be built in independent India? This city is a technologically advanced city in all aspects. It has excellent infrastructure which has led to the boom in the private sector. Many global companies have set up their branches here. The world class transport and road facilities, and modern urban planning has helped in this process. It is often regarded as the largest IT hub of northern India. The Panchkula region is the place of action.
The Industrial Township of Bhathinda
One of the oldest cities of Punjab, Bhathinda is a well-known industrial hub. The city was built by the Bhati Kings. This region is flooded with various industrial stations – from thermal power plants to textile mills to petro-chemical plants. This range has all of it. This industrial hub was the early capital of Punjab before Chandigarh came into the picture. Well connected by railways, road (lies on the Grand Trunk Road) and located near to the Amritsar airport this place is well suited for industrial development. The city also hosts some leading universities like Guru Nanak University. The region is primarily important for steel, handloom, rubber and automobile industry. There are many tourist places in Jalandhar, you can visit with family and friends. However, in recent times IT companies have started setting up centres here leading to the development of IT sector.


Mohali, The Commercial Hub of Punjab

The IT hub and commercial capital of Punjab, Mohali is often clubbed under Chandigarh due to its proximity to the capital city. The city is originally named after Sikh guru Guru Gobind Singh’s eldest son Ajit Singh. The region harbours a range of important educational and technological centres like the Indian School of Business, Fashion Technology institute, National Institute of Nanotechnology, IISER among many others.
It is a growing IT hub and larger than Chandigarh. It is the second most important IT hub after Chandigarh. This region contributes most of the GDP of Punjab, greater than 3% of the GDP of Punjab comes from this city. The city plays a prominent role in food, textile and IT sector.
Ludhiana, The Largest City of Punjab
Ludhiana, the largest city of Punjab is found in the eastern region. With excellent road and railway facilities, and a booming urban structure it is regarded business hub of Punjab. This city drives the economy of Punjab and contributes 16% of its GDP. It is a foremost point of the Eastern Industrial Corridor. It has served as a technical centre in the water sector of the World Bank. The place is ideal for manufacturing industry specially of machine parts. Agro-based industries are also quite prevalent. Recently, the IT sector has started manoeuvring in this field. Hence, it has a prospective IT hub potential
