By Emma D’Arcy who shares some marketing tips
We are in the midst of living through a very worrying, strange and unknown time. Everywhere you look there is uncertainty. Our collective lives on a global level have been turned, literally UPSIDE DOWN.
If you consume any media, whether it be national, global or social media, the mood is sombre, fear and uncertainty feature everywhere. It is all too easy to get caught up in the constant negativity. Yes, we must be vigilant, safe and expedient in how we conduct our daily lives for the good of all.
However, in a business and marketing sense, there has never been more urgency to be active and strategic in the actions that you take going forward. Below you will find 6 ways to crack the marketing code, within a crisis, any crisis.
Utilize PR, the media are LOOKING for stories, go back to basics and TELL YOUR STORY, explain how this pandemic is affecting YOUR business and what you are doing to counteract this crisis. Reach out to local and national newspapers and TV stations and tell them your story. This will keep your business top of mind for your customers, it will enhance your overall standing and when things go back to normal or as normal as they can be, your PR efforts will pay dividends.
Maximize your story across all of your social media channels, most people are at home with less to occupy them and are more active on social media channels now than ever. Tell your story, position your product or service as the solution to THEIR problems. Be creative and innovative, but most of all be consistent.
Advertise your products or services online. Google ads and Facebook ads, are actually cheaper right now. If you can’t do it yourself, pay someone to do it for you. If your budget does not run to paying an agency to run your online advertising campaigns, why not LEARN how to do it yourself. There are tons of online trainings you could take, to bring you up to speed.
If you have a physical shop or store, now is an EXCELLENT time to start a shopify account, this will allow you to sell online. Their support service is second to none. You have nothing to lose, get in there and start TODAY.
Upgrade your product and service offerings on your website. That is to say, you must RE-EVALUATE what you are offering, given the current climate, do you need to change aspects of what you offer? Can you cater for current needs in the crisis? In other words, can you pivot your current business offerings in order to meet YOUR clients needs RIGHT NOW
A key aspect of marketing in general and specifically marketing within a massive crisis, is that YOUR business needs to be top of mind. In order to achieve this end, you need to consistently market exactly what you do on a consistent basis. Two ways you could focus on is to create videos and or audio clips that will explain, and tell the consumer what it is you do.
This can be done in a variety of formats, it can be fun, informational, through stories, take a tour of your premises, speak about your offerings, offer high value in help to your customers in the form of advice, are just a few ideas that can help you to keep your business front and centre of its customers minds, encouraging them to buy now or to keep your business top of mind, for when quarantine is over
