Things have been tough for many European workers in the past few months. COVID-19 has resulted in the loss of millions of jobs as the continent faces the greatest health crisis since the Spanish Flu.
The good news is we’re not here to share more bad news with you. Today, let’s talk about the promising new career opportunities that we predict will follow in the wake of the virus. These are jobs that almost anyone could qualify for, regardless of education or experience. You only need to be willing to adapt.
If you’ve been affected by unemployment during this chaotic time, take a look at some of these ideas. You just might find your next job in one of the following industries, which are growing dramatically.
5 Excellent Post-Pandemic Career Opportunities for Inexperienced Candidates
Joining the Health Technology Industry
We’re in the middle of what is being dubbed as “healthcare’s digital revolution.” Doctors (and tech companies) from around the world have agreed that the coronavirus sparked a catalyst of digital health solutions – such as remote monitoring, telehealth platforms, health applications, and more.
With this surge in health technology comes a need for more online health workers and further digital transformation. Countries like the United Kingdom are witnessing a rise in young tech businesses who are working to provide access to mental health services, sleep aid, online doctor’s appointments, and much more.
“The crisis is giving health tech companies the chance to show what they can do,” said Julia Hawkins, partner at VC company LocalGlobe. “The response from many companies who have got involved demonstrates that we do have the talent and skills here to build globally significant health tech companies.”
If you’re interested, you could be a part of this talent that health tech companies are pulling from. Don’t think that you have to be a programmer or a healthcare expert to assist – these brands also need customer service representatives, marketers, assistants, and salespeople.
Many are willing to hire and train inexperienced workers, as long as they show promise. The more consumers turn to online healthcare, the bigger the employment opportunities will become.
Working with a Delivery Startup
You’ve seen them all – Instacart, Grubhub, EatTakeaway, Ubereats, Postmates, Doordash, just to name a few.
As people hunkered down in their homes to avoid COVID-19, many adapted to ordering their food digitally. The industry has boomed, and estimates indicate that the delivery services market will grow by hundreds of billions by 2023. It looks like takeout is undergoing a digital transformation, like other industries.
Finding a job with a food delivery company shouldn’t be all that difficult, both now and post-coronavirus. These delivery apps and websites are in desperate need of drivers to shuttle orders from restaurants and stores to customers.
Depending on tips and other factors, delivery service workers can earn decent money and embrace a flexible schedule. The position requires little previous experience – predominantly just an up-to-date driver’s license and access to a vehicle for deliveries.
Being a driver isn’t your only option. These online companies also need customer service reps and other behind the scenes helpers, so look beyond the obvious when scrolling through job listings.
Don’t think that food delivery is just a trend that’s popular while we’re all in quarantine. Many of these companies are being acquired by delivery giants, and plans for the future of online food ordering are booming.
Who knows? By 2025 or beyond, being a delivery driver for startups like these could wind up being more lucrative and common than being a server in a traditional brick-and-mortar restaurant. The in-store brand experience is changing, especially when it comes to food and dining.
Stocking a Warehouse
We saw an increase in “essential job” positions listed during COVID-19. Stores needed more shelf stockers to keep grocery stores full and functioning during the worst of the virus and its quarantine.
However, it’s our prediction that warehouse positions will continue to open up even once COVID-19 has passed. Why? Because of the influx in online and remote orders.
Whether you’re working for a fully digital company or a store that has physical locations, you could be a part of the team that ensures stores have what they need to fulfill orders. Giant corporations like Amazon are continuously hiring tens of thousands of new workers to create a customer-centric delivery company.
Warehouse positions are becoming increasingly safe and regulated. This might be your chance to look for a job where you can help supply critical items to people in need while also working your way into a steady, fulfilling career.
Taking a Position with a Logistics Company
If there’s one industry that has boomed due to COVID-19, it’s online shopping. More people are purchasing hygiene products, food, clothing, drinks, books, and other items digitally than ever before – and that means there are more shipping and logistics positions in demand.
Not interested in the warehouse part of the process? Turn to the packaging & shipping side of delivery services.
The great thing about looking into helping with online order fulfillment is that the job doesn’t necessarily require much previous experience. Many logistics companies are willing to hire new employees, as long as they are trainable and willing to learn. They need help with everything from remote team management to customer service.
“They’re really willing to take on people that they know are coming from different backgrounds,” career coach EB Sanders told MarketWatch when discussing the influx of shipping and logistics job positions.
Even after COVID-19 has subsided, we expect to see online shopping continuously grow in popularity. Companies will continue to need workers who help with order fulfillment, shipping, and general logistics as people around Europe shop via their digital devices.
Offering Virtual Fitness Services
Although gyms and fitness centers are starting to reopen in many countries, it could be a long time before people are willing to brave the public and return to their normal workout routines. Many of us have gotten used to exercising at home – and that’s a trend that could very well stick.
As Mobile Health News pointed out, many UK health club chains have turned to mobile workouts to engage those at home. There are online videos and classes for people of all ages, including older adults and children.
Whether fitness users are looking for a blend of health and entertainment or straightforward classes, there’s a good chance that much of it will be done remotely – and that’s a huge transition for the fitness industry.
It doesn’t take too much to find a position where you can thrive in virtual fitness. Whether you’re interested in teaching a course, helping with customer engagement, or promoting an application or course, there’s something you can do with your experience level.
More and more fitness centers and gyms are expected to adopt virtual services – and quickly. Keep an eye out for an influx of jobs in the industry, both now and beyond COVID-19.
In Conclusion
Whether you’re wondering if you’ll be back in the office after COVID-19 or you’re already on the hunt for a new job, it’s a good idea to start evaluating what positions will be in demand post-virus.
There are certainly a handful of well-paying, innovative jobs out there that are looking more and more promising each day. From working with virtual fitness and healthcare companies to stocking and delivering supplies, these positions will hopefully help many unemployed Europeans recover quickly.
