3 Irish companies win Web Summit Go Global award

IRISH TECH COMPANIES POINTY, CESANTA & XPRESO SET TO ‘GO GLOBAL’

Irish tech startups Pointy, Cesanta and Xpreso have been announced as winners of the ‘Go Global’ competition run by the team behind Web Summit.

The competition, aimed at emerging Irish tech startups, offered entrants the chance to unlock expert advice and showcase their companies to eager investors and tech enthusiasts across the globe.

The three Irish winners of the Go Global Competition are:

Pointy

Founded in 2014 by Mark Cummins and Charles Bibby, Pointy is a service that enables retailers to easily scan their products directly to a website using only an ordinary barcode scanner. The company secured investment of €1.1m in 2015 and are currently established in Dublin.

Xpreso

Founded by “Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur 2014” winner, Eamon Keane, and Cyclone Couriers CEO, Simon Pleass, the Xpreso solution eliminates the “Sorry we missed you” card that online shoppers receive when they are not at home to accept their delivery. Xpreso raised US$1m in seed funding recently.

Cesanta

Anatoly Lebedev and Sergey Lyubka founded Cesanta in 2014 and aim to become leaders in the Internet of Things space. They have developed software designed to enable network communication between devices or appliances using secure connectivity and data intelligence.

Paddy Cosgrave, CEO and founder of Web Summit, said: “The three winners are a great example of the entrepreneurial potential in Ireland and we’re delighted to support them. We’ll be providing them with assistance through our network of investors, media and other major tech entrepreneurs. It’s great to see Irish startups companies growing and going global.”

All three chosen Irish startups have the opportunity to be flown to the Web Summit’s sister conference, RISE in Hong Kong. They will have the opportunity to seek advice and investment through one to one meetings with investors and other technology entrepreneurs. They will also compete in front of thousands over the series of conferences with other startups as part of a pitch competition.

They will also take a starring role in Web Summit and have the opportunity for further engagements in 2016.
