13 local mothers graduate from The Digital Hub’s first #techmums programme

13 mothers from the local Dublin 8 area were today awarded certificates after successfully completing The Digital Hub’s first #techmums programme. #techmums has been taking place in the Learning Studio of The Digital Hub for the past six weeks, as part of The Digital Hub’s commitment to various learning initiatives in the local area.

Founded by Dr Sue Black in 2012, #techmums helps mums get over their fear of technology by offering free hands-on workshops and online support in order to give them the confidence, skills and inspiration they need to take part in the digital revolution. Technology is critical to our future yet many women, particularly mothers, can be scared of tech, worried about its impact on their children, and unaware of the life-changing opportunities it can offer in work and daily life.

The Digital Hub recently partnered with Dr Sue Black to bring #techmums to Dublin 8. Over the past six weeks, various mums from the local area have been getting to grips with new skills and knowledge to ensure they make the most of what the internet has to offer. Subjects taught include social media skills, the importance of online security, how to navigate Google cloud and Google drive, and introductions to app and web design.

Attending the awards ceremony at The Digital Hub, Dr Sue Black said: “I’m so delighted to be working with The Digital Hub to bring #techmums to Dublin. #techmums gives mums the opportunity to find out more about the amazing opportunities that technology offers along with hands on practical tech skills. Mums can then use this knowledge to help start up a business, get a better job, understand what their children are doing online, and so much more. #techmums rock!”

Yvonne Kealy, one of the 13 local mums who successfully completed the programme, said: “#techmums has been a fantastic learning experience for me, and is a great course for mothers to get to grips with the digital world. In this day and age, courses like #techmums should almost be compulsory for parents and guardians. It has awakened a huge interest among the mothers involved in the digital world, and we would love to see a follow up course so we can broaden our digital knowledge even further.”
