The world of cybersecurity is forever growing, and so are cyber attacks. In this article, we are going to look at ten crazy statistics about the world of cybersecurity. Want to help protect our planet, try signing up for an online degree! Click the link to learn about this program.
1. In the entire world, Algeria has the highest number of computer malware infections, with around 31% of computers being infected. Bangladesh holds the record for the highest number of phone infections, at approximately 36%
2. In 2019, it was recorded that the entire world lost around 2 trillion US dollars to cyber attacks. This is more money than we lost in natural disasters worldwide!
3. A hacker attack occurs every 39 seconds. That’s right. It sounds crazy, and it is! Right now, as you are reading this article, several breaches have occurred stealing an individual’s data and information. How scary!
4. Small businesses make up to 43% of attacks. This is generally because they are less protected, therefore, more accessible to access than large companies.
5. By 2021, damages are expected to increase to 6 trillion dollars! With growing technology, it’s becoming easier for hackers to learn new systems and hack into different companies.
6. 28% of adults use the same password for their different accounts. This is a big no-no! If hackers learn your password, they then have a one-way ticket to all of your accounts, making it a walk in the park for them. It may be annoying but try to change up all your passwords to create an extra barrier of protection.
7. There are three types of hackers. White hat hackers, black hat hackers, and grey hat hackers. Black hat hackers are said to pose the most significant threat.
8. Over 60 million Americans have had their identity stolen online. The more websites you sign up to, the more times your character is displayed on the web. This gives hackers more access to your personal information, so always try to avoid using your real name, address, and number.
9. If you are thinking of becoming a hacker, think again, because you will end up on the FBI’s most-wanted list.
10. An individual error usually causes up to 95% of cyber attacks. If you are an employer educating your employees on cybersecurity is so important, because as statistics show, it can be straightforward for someone to ‘accidentally let a hacker in.’
So there you have it! There are thousands of more statistics out there, but it is alarming to see how prominent cyber attacks are in today’s society. Are you thinking of protecting our world? Maybe try out a career in cybersecurity.
