In the Film industry Actors and Actress in the past used to depend on the industry to keep their relevance up and agents to keep them busy. Now we have entered the New Hollywood where Actors and Actress have taken on more responsibility within the business and marketing side of their craft. Let’s take a marketing deep dive into the life of a mainstream actor that takes Social Media and Branding very seriously.

Derrick D. Worsley shares his insights with Irish Tech News …

What is your background briefly?

My story began as a bright smile young man growing up as a military brat traveling the world, in which later in life I also joined the U.S. Army and served multiple tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. “Achieve the Unachievable” quickly became my motto as I began to rise quickly in the TV and film industry. My debut was first in the ABC’s TV Series Nashville, which I starred as the character Police Chief Varn. Derrick Worsley is also the star host of DIY Network’s home improvement show “I Want That”. I am an Actor, Director, and Producer. My most recent film credits includes the Biopic “Tupac’s All Eyez on Me” in which I played a supporting actor, “Sleepless Nights”, starring Jamie Foxx, “Leavey” starring Kate Mara, and “The Profile”, in which I will be the starring as the Lead Actor. You can watch episodes of previous television shows, Bring Mary Jane, Survivors Remorse, and Satisfaction to name a few on demand. I was also a supporting actor for the movie “Taken 3” as Officer Edwards.

Does it seem like a logical background to what you do now?

Yes, I’m constantly working to improve myself and build a solid Brand.

What are you currently working on now?

I have a show that’s airing within the next month called “What Would You Do” with John Quinones, in which we have hidden cameras and we set up various scenarios to see how people respond. We have the number one spot for Friday nights. I’m working to get awareness for my newly launched brand “NSPIRE”, and I have a few film projects in which I was casted. I’ve partnered with my acting coach and Gate City Entertainment’s Chris Waymon, in which I’m set to executive produce and direct our upcoming project Magnificent Bastard.
Pretty much keeping myself fairly busy!

Whats the importance of social media for you and your work?

Social media is very important for me so that I can create awareness of my Brand and have more of an impact when influencing others in a positive direction #NSPIRE

Has your business grown because of social media?

I really haven’t developed a business model. I’ve had such high demand that I’m in reactive mode responding and being on set for various roles and jobs. I need to work on developing an official model.

How do you balance your work and private life ?

I try to only take jobs that can give me the most bang for my buck. I once you to accept every job thrown my way and found myself not getting much personal or family time, therefore now I choose wisely . I guess I’m trying to be 360WISE #lol 🙂

What’s your top 3 SocialMedia platforms and why?

My top 3 social media platforms are Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook Public Page.
Twitter breaks the news first and you can find & make great business relationships with other Influences , movers and shakers. IG is great for photo and FB-Public long form content.

How have the last 12 months been – anything you would have done differently?

The past 12 months have been solid. I would have submitted to more castings if I had to do it all over again.

What are you excited about in the near future?

Working on new behind the scenes as an executive producer and co-director on my upcoming film Magnificent Bastards

What are your plans for next 12 months?

I’m going to continue to work my film project Magnificent Bastards, I just launched my own brand July called “NSPIRE”, so I’m working very aggressively to get that off the ground and running. I also have a few initiatives and events coming up wth the brands that I represent, Sweet Sweat and the Forever Collection by K Michael. I’m going to try and jump on some of these upcoming film projects as well.

What tips would you give to those starting out?

To those just starting out in the industry, HARD WORK and VISION is the key. Don’t give up on your dream. Know yourself and know what you want from the industry. Master your craft and continue to improve on your craft.

Who are your sources of inspiration?

When I want inspiration, I take a look at the likes of Jay Z, Sean Diddy Combs. I also like to look at TED Talks and really gain a lot of inspiration through old school films of various genres. I’m really just inspired from anyone who displays hard work and the ambition to succeed.

What music do you put on to get up and get things done?

I really listen to all types of genre. I often turn to the great MJ (Michael Jackson) for reflection. I listen to Jay Z, Migos, and Future for motivation. I listen to Maze often when I’m in deep thought or searching for a vision.
