Irish Tech News will be moderating at the Dutch Embassy in Dublin for this event. For more details see here.

Brief background about you?

My journey started in the South of France where I had done a master’s in Pure Mathematics and Computer Science. I then moved to Dublin to carry out a PhD in one of the world’s leading Molecular Evolution and Bioinformatics labs.

But the defining moment in my career as a scientist was when I realized the opportunity in food. And this led me to focus my research on the molecular development of food during my postdoctoral degree in UCD.

Overall, during all of my research and collaborations with industry, I began to understand that the key to reducing and preventing disease begins and ends with food and the best way to uncover what was really in food was looking at the data within to see what food is fully capable of. This realisation ultimately led to the creation of Nuritas, the first company in the world to use artificial intelligence and DNA analysis to find new disease-beating molecules infoodstuffs.

What inspired you to speak at this event?

Representing Ireland’s innovation is an honour and I could not say no to this. Also being in the top 10 most ground-breaking technologies in Europe is an amazing achievement for us.

Why it will be helpful for people to attend. What will they get out of it?

People will be able to experience the most innovative and exciting ideas and companies in Europe.

We saw you speak at the Helix ITLG last year – well done – how has the last year since then been?

It’s been an amazing year thus far. We received record-breaking international investment in 2015 and we were able to triple the team, bringing on some great leaders from the food and pharma worlds. We are still hiring for key roles. Currently as well, we are working on bringing our scientifically-proven ingredients to market.

Who has inspired you?

I love science and am inspired by anyone who breaks boundaries and lives to change the status quo; those that are making the impossible possible. People that have been knocked down because they thought differently about things and have kept pushing forward because they believed in their solution – those are the people that inspire me.

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked you?

We will be talking about how the current health system is broken and needs a complete re-evaluation. Prevention is a key to this, and there are currently very few scientifically proven preventative measures out there.

Nuritas, however, is answering this demand by data-mining food to create new preventative and disease-beating ingredients that are natural and scientifically proven. Very importantly, these ingredients don’t have damaging side effects and are sustainable, making them accessible to rich and poor.
