Esri Ireland today announced that it has created an interactive story map to allow cycling fans follow the action of this year’s An Post Rás 2017 from their mobile phones. The race takes place from Sunday 21st to the 28th of May.

The map presents the route and points of interest as a series of interactive maps over a detailed map from Ordnance Survey Ireland. It enables spectators and fans to get to the heart of the action and follow the race leaders on each stage of the eight-day race.

2017 marks the seventh year of An Post’s sponsorship of the Rás Tailteann. The race began in 1953 and has been held every year since.

Eamonn Doyle, CTO, Esri Ireland said: “The An Post Rás is one of Ireland’s top sporting events, bringing world-class sporting action and a significant economic boost to towns and villages nationwide. The open racing style allows amateur county and club riders to pit themselves against domestic and international professionals and the race has a strong international reputation. This story map allows fans to get up close to the action, and give them an idea of the gruelling challenge facing competitors.”
