Describe the company – the elevator pitch …

Mooka Media is an educational multimedia company specialising in instructional design and digital content development. From helping our clients shape online content ideas, through to release and maintenance, we offer a range of elearning services for any stage of the digital learning design process.

How are you different?

Unlike many of our competitors in the edtech space, our approach to digital learning is design-first, not technology-first.

We’re specialists in instructional design and multimedia learning. We are also adaptable to any discipline and work with content from primary schools to postgraduate studies, to professional training.

Why will the company / product do well?

Digital learning is a growing market, both locally and globally. Three reasons why Mooka Media will do well are:

  1. We’re experienced

We’re highly experienced in digital learning design and we understand how to create effective and engaging learning materials.

  1. We’re adaptable

We love to hatch new ideas and we embrace emerging technologies. This innovation combined with our extensive experience produces instructional design that is practical, flexible, creative, and engaging.

  1. We listen

We provide a genuinely consultative experience so our clients know they’re getting the digital product or service that’s the right fit for their business and, crucically, their learners.

Where are you based?

We’re headquartered in Dublin, but we believe in supporting remote working. So we currently have a geographically dispersed team in Dublin, Donegal and Belfast.

When was the company launched?

We were founded in 2014 and started trading in November of that year.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

Establishing ourselves as supplier to Ireland’s leading educational publishers. We love working on a variety of elearning projects, but we do particularly enjoy designing kids content.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

We have a broad market. Digital learning crosses multiple market segments and disciplines. Our customer base has spanned educational publishers, learning technology companies, and elearning providers, and that’s only a start.

We particularly want to attract clients who are looking for quality digital learning content and engaging design.

Tell us about your team?

We have a small core team with experience in the elearning, educational publishing, and higher education sectors. It is key for us that our team is proficient in instructional design and principles of educational multimedia.

The skillset of our team covers content and editorial, instructional design, UI and interaction design, and development – from authoring tools to web technologies. We also have design and development partners who can work with us on larger scale projects.

The company was founded by Lee Gardiner and Susan Johnson, a partnership forged through working on a range of digital learning projects for one of Ireland’s educational publishers.

What are your long term plans for your product / company?

For services, we would like to expand our customer reach into the UK, EU and beyond.

In the longer term, we also plan to branch out from services in to digital product development, with bases and job creation in Dublin, Belfast and the West of Ireland.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

It depends who you’re asking! Susan likes her iPhone and Macbook, but not everyone in Mooka is a fan of Apple …

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

We’d  be interested in investigating the application of Pinlight (NVIDIA’s AR tech), or similar technology areas beyond STEM subjects.

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?
